HOSTAL MAYOR, Madrid

The hostal sits between Madrid's two most iconic squares, putting the entire historic centre within easy walking distance. Reina Sofía and Prado museums are about 15 minutes on foot. Gran Via is 5 minutes away, and Puerta del Sol metro station (Lines 1, 2, 3) is a 2-minute walk - direct to Atocha station and Madrid-Barajas Airport via Line 8 at Nuevos Ministerios. A taxi rank is located right outside. For such a central position, the main trade-off is street noise at night: the area is lively with bars, restaurants and pedestrian traffic until late. Courtyard-facing rooms are noticeably quieter.

The hostal does not serve breakfast or have a restaurant. A vending machine in the lobby offers drinks and packaged snacks (coffee €1, soft drinks). The ground floor houses a branch of Museo del Jamón, and dozens of tapas bars, cafés and restaurants are within a one- to three-minute walk - including Casa Labra, Rosi La Loca Taberna, and Cervecería Sol Mayor. For a quick breakfast, La Mallorquina (0.5 km) is a classic Madrid pastry shop. For guests wanting to self-cater, the room has no kitchen facilities, so all meals are procured outside.

The hostal has no pool, spa, gym, or recreational facilities. Its strength is its position between Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor, putting the city's main leisure, shopping, and cultural sights within a short walk. The rooftop or lounge space is limited to a small seating area in the lobby. For relaxation, the many nearby parks (El Retiro, 20-minute walk) or a visit to the museums on foot are the natural alternatives.

The 24-hour reception staff can store luggage before check-in and after check-out - even for up to two days. An invoice is provided for business stays. The building has a lift, useful for luggage and upper-floor access. Key access and CCTV cover entry points. Free Wi-Fi is available in rooms. The bathroom includes free toiletries and a hairdryer; towels are changed daily. A safety deposit box is free. There is no laundry service or washing machine on site. The property accepts Visa and MasterCard. Airport transfer is not offered; the metro (150m) or taxi stand directly outside are the easiest options.
