HOTEL CASA BOCCASSINI, Venice

The hotel sits in a quiet alley away from Venice's main tourist crowds, yet all major sights are within a 15-20 minute walk. The Fondamenta Nuove vaporetto stop connects directly to the airport, Murano, and Burano. Dozens of restaurants, pizzerias, and cafés are within a two-minute walk, offering authentic local dining without the tourist markups. The Cannaregio neighbourhood itself is one of Venice's most atmospheric, with narrow canals and quiet squares.

Each room is clean and comfortable, with effective air conditioning and daily housekeeping. Some rooms overlook the garden courtyard, and ground-floor rooms are available for easier access. Pillows tend to be thin; those preferring thicker pillows may wish to bring their own. The basic decor matches the hotel's historic building and Venetian atmosphere. Rooms include a safe, hairdryer, and heating for winter stays. Private bathrooms are compact but well-maintained. Free luggage storage is available before check-in and after check-out.

Breakfast is available for an additional €10 and includes hot scrambled eggs, a selection of cheeses and cold cuts, croissants, cakes, yoghurts, cereals, and fresh fruit. Tea, coffee, and juices are provided. The buffet is served in the pretty courtyard garden in fine weather, or in the breakfast room. Free tea, coffee, and biscuits are available in the lounge area until 18:00 each day. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but many excellent trattorias and pizzerias are within a three-minute walk.

The garden is the hotel's main leisure feature - a shady, secluded courtyard with wrought-iron furniture, where guests can unwind with a drink, read, or enjoy breakfast. No spa, wellness centre, swimming pool, or fitness facilities are available. The nearby water-bus stop provides easy day trips to the islands of Murano and Burano.

WiFi is free throughout the property. Daily housekeeping is included. The concierge can arrange water taxis, gondola rides, and airport transfers at competitive rates. Luggage storage is free before check-in and after check-out. The tour desk provides maps and recommendations. Other services include fax/photocopying. Safety features include CCTV in common areas and fire extinguishers. The property has no lift, and the garden is the only smoking area. Accepted payment methods: Visa and MasterCard.
