Hotel El Pescador sits directly on the beach at the north end of the Malecón, the city's famous oceanfront boardwalk. The main historic square, Plaza de Armas, is about 1 km away. The immediate area is lively, with a large grocery store (Ley) just one block away, along with numerous restaurants, taco stands, and ice cream shops within a three-minute walk. The Zona Romántica and its nightlife are about a 15-minute walk south. Puerto Vallarta Marina and the International Airport are both roughly 15 minutes away by car. The area feels safe and walkable day and night, and taxis are readily available outside the hotel.

Accommodation consists of air-conditioned rooms with a simple, clean style. Each room includes a private bathroom with a shower, free toiletries, a flat-screen TV with cable channels, and a telephone. Ocean-view rooms are the only ones that guarantee a balcony and a refrigerator (standard city-view rooms typically have neither). Beds are medium-firm, but a number of guests have found the mattresses and pillows too hard for comfort. Rooms facing the street may experience traffic and hallway noise, while ocean-front rooms offer the sound of waves. Some rooms have been reported to show their age, with worn furniture and minor maintenance issues, but daily housekeeping keeps them clean.

The on-site Coral Restaurant & Bar is open daily from 07:30 to 22:00 and offers an à la carte menu for all three meals. A complimentary continental breakfast (coffee, juice, fruit, and bread) is included with your room. You may upgrade to a more substantial buffet or order from the menu for an additional charge - note that the buffet is the same daily and can become repetitive. For those wanting a full cooked breakfast, ordering à la carte is a better option. The bar has a daily happy hour from 5 to 7 pm, with margaritas and cocktails at reduced prices. In addition to the hotel's dining, the surrounding streets are filled with restaurants, food carts, and cafes within a five-minute walk.

The outdoor swimming pool is a central feature of the hotel, open daily from 09:00 to 21:00. It is clean, unheated, and surrounded by a sun terrace with lounge chairs. The beach directly in front of the hotel is accessible through a gate; note that the hotel does not provide lounge chairs or umbrellas on the sand - these can be rented from local vendors (approximately 350 pesos). The shoreline can be rocky in places, so water shoes may be useful. Whale watching is possible from the hotel property during migration season. There is no spa, gym, sauna, or hot tub on site.

Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas but may be unreliable at peak times and weak in some rooms. The hotel has two lifts, 24-hour reception and security (CCTV, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers), and daily housekeeping included. Luggage storage is free and useful if you arrive before check-in or depart after check-out. Room service is also available. No airport shuttle service is offered - taxis are the practical option for airport transfer. Payment is by Visa or MasterCard only (no cash accepted). The front desk staff can assist with tours and currency exchange. There is no business centre or meeting room.
