The hotel sits on a main road near the 101 freeway. The beach and harbor are a 10-15 minute walk, though crossing a major intersection is required. Downtown State Street is about 15 minutes on foot. Free on-site parking is a significant advantage in this area. The neighbourhood has some homeless presence, particularly near the park behind the hotel. Walking alone at night may feel less comfortable. The Amtrak station is a 5-10 minute walk, making car-free arrivals practical.

Room types range from standard Queen/King rooms to Deluxe rooms with two queen beds or a king/queen plus full kitchen, to the two-bedroom Harbor Pool Suite. All include pillow-top beds, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, DVD player, microwave, and refrigerator. Deluxe rooms and suites have fully equipped kitchens. The Accessible Queen Deluxe offers a roll-in shower, grab bars, and lowered counters. Condition varies: some have updated kitchens and bathrooms with vinyl flooring, while others retain older carpet and fixtures. Road-facing rooms can be noisy; courtyard-facing rooms are quieter. Second-floor rooms require climbing stairs with luggage.

Breakfast includes pastries from a local bakery, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and beverages. It is served in a small lobby with limited indoor seating; outdoor tables are available but adjacent to the road. The afternoon wine reception (4:30-6:30 pm) features local wines, cheese, crackers, and occasionally salami. Evening milk and cookies are provided. There is no on-site restaurant, but staff can arrange delivery from local eateries. Several restaurants are within a 5-minute walk, including the Brewhouse and Rudy's Mexican.

The pool is open year-round and heated, with a shallow end and saltwater system. The hot tub is a popular feature. The courtyard sundeck has loungers and is surrounded by gardens. Free beach cruiser bicycles are available from the sister property next door; they are ideal for exploring the waterfront and downtown. A DVD library and board games are also available for in-room entertainment.

Parking is free and no reservation is needed, but spots are limited; overflow parking is at a sister property three blocks away. Wi-Fi is free throughout. The front desk is open 24 hours, but after 11 pm key issues must be handled at the sister property. Luggage storage is free. Laundry: self-service coin-operated washers and dryers, plus dry cleaning with same-day return if dropped off before 8 am. A business centre with fax/photocopying is available.
