The hostel sits directly across from the Amtrak station (300 m), making it ideal for rail travellers. West Beach is only 4 minutes on foot, and the Santa Barbara Pier, restaurants, and State Street shopping are all within a 10-15 minute walk. Santa Barbara City College is a 14-minute walk, and the Museum of Art is 2 km. Santa Barbara Airport is 16 km away. The location is very walkable and well-served by public transport, so a car is unnecessary for most visitors. However, the train line runs right behind the building, and train noise (horns and announcements) can be heard in rooms, especially in warmer months when windows are open.

The dormitory rooms feature 10 pod-style bunk beds with privacy curtains, a personal shelf, reading light, and a mini fan in some units. The double rooms contain two full-size beds (each can sleep up to 2 people). All bathrooms are shared (separate male and female facilities with private shower stalls). The beds are independent structures, so movement from the bottom bunk is not felt above. However, there is no air conditioning in most rooms; heating is available but can be noisy. Train noise and activity from the common area can be audible, especially in rooms near the lounge. Rooms are generally clean and well-maintained, but some guests noted occasional warmth and stuffiness. A few upper-level rooms have air conditioning. The hostel provides bed linens and towels for a fee.

Breakfast is continental buffet style with pancake mix, eggs, chocolate chips, peanut butter, bananas, and coffee provided for self-preparation. This is included at no extra cost. The full shared kitchen is available for guests to cook their own meals at any time. Several restaurants are within a 5-minute walk, including Finney's (0.5 km), Rusty's Pizza Parlor (0.5 km), The Lark (0.5 km), and Santo Mezcal (0.5 km). For those wanting more variety, the downtown area offers many options.

Guests can join free daily activities such as movie nights, pub crawls, evening entertainment, and board games. Outdoor amenities include a sun terrace with picnic area, an outdoor fireplace for evening gatherings, BBQ facilities, and a shared lounge/TV area.
