Haymarket Station is immediately across the road, providing direct trains to Edinburgh Waverley in one stop and a 15-minute train journey to the airport. The tram stop is also just across the road, offering a 30-minute ride to the airport. The Airlink 100 bus from the airport stops almost at the door and runs all night. The city centre, including Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle, is a 15-20 minute walk or a short bus ride. Many restaurants, pubs, and shops are within a few minutes' walk along the same street. Murrayfield Stadium is about a 20-minute walk, making this a practical base for events.

Room sizes vary significantly: some are spacious with high Victorian ceilings and bay windows, while others - particularly single rooms and basement rooms - are very compact. Single rooms have a single bed and a small bathroom; family rooms provide three beds (two singles and a double). Some rooms are on the ground floor (subject to availability). Many rooms have carpets; some have wooden floors. Rooms facing internal machinery areas or near water pumps can experience persistent noise. Several rooms have poor sound insulation from plumbing and neighbouring rooms. Basement rooms may have limited mobile signal and are susceptible to dampness and mould. Heating is generally effective, but some rooms lack individual temperature control. There is no air conditioning; windows can be opened in many rooms. Electric kettles, cookware, and utensils are provided in rooms. No rooms have a balcony.

The hotel does not serve breakfast or have its own restaurant. A complimentary Nespresso coffee machine, tea, and fresh fruit are provided in the communal lounge. Numerous cafes, sandwich shops, and restaurants are within a 2-minute walk, including a variety of options such as Italian, Indian, and Vietnamese cuisine. Several pubs and bars are also on the same street. A supermarket is a short walk away for self-catering supplies.
