THE KEATING, San Diego

The Keating is located in the Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego's historic downtown entertainment district. The San Diego Convention Center is less than 1 km away (about 10 minutes on foot) and the San Diego International Airport is 4 km from the property. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo are within a short drive or trolley ride. The surrounding streets are filled with restaurants, bars, and shops, with highlights such as Tacos El Gordo, The Tipsy Crow, and Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop all within a few blocks. The area is walking-friendly, and public transport - including the trolley - is nearby, making a car unnecessary for most city-centre trips. Parking is limited and paid, so guests arriving by car should plan ahead and use the hotel's discounted parking link.

Rooms range from 37 to 46 m² and include a fridge, work desk, TV, wardrobe, and sofa (in suites). The private bathroom features a walk-in shower, free toiletries, and a hairdryer. Air conditioning and heating are provided in all rooms. The property adjoins several bars and clubs, so street-facing rooms and those near entertainment areas can be noisy, especially on weekend nights; earplugs are supplied. The interior style is minimalist and industrial - concrete floors, open showers, and stainless-steel fixtures - which some may find basic, but the spaces are genuinely large and airy. Double-glazed windows help reduce external noise, and some windows can be opened for ventilation. Those who prefer a traditional, cosy hotel room may find the aesthetic too stark, but for travellers who value space and value, the layout is practical.

The Keating has a bar on the premises, offering a relaxing atmosphere for drinks. There is no breakfast service or restaurant. The Gaslamp Quarter location means a wide variety of dining is within a short walk, including Osetra Seafood & Steaks, Gourmet India, Asti Ristorante, Greystone Prime Steakhouse & Seafood, The Tipsy Crow, Brian's 24, Osteria Panevino, and Bandar Restaurant - all approximately 0.5 km away. For a quick bite, Tacos El Gordo is across the street and Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop is nearby. The hotel staff can provide personalised restaurant recommendations. Guests who rely on in-room coffee-making should note that some rooms lack a coffee maker, so planning around nearby cafés is advisable.

The Keating does not have a pool, spa, or fitness centre. However, its location in the Gaslamp Quarter places guests directly in the middle of San Diego's most vibrant entertainment district. Nearby attractions include Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, Petco Park (home of the Padres), and the Balboa Theatre. The historic Gaslamp Quarter itself offers a lively nightlife scene, with many bars, clubs, and live music venues within walking distance. For those seeking a quieter experience, the San Diego Bay waterfront and Embarcadero are a pleasant stroll away.

WiFi is free in all areas. Free luggage storage is available for early arrivals or late departures. The front desk is staffed from 9am to 4pm; outside these hours, guests can text the property for assistance. Check-in is self-service via door codes sent after 3pm on arrival day. Safety features include CCTV in common areas and outside the property, fire extinguishers, security alarms, and smoke alarms. There is no housekeeping for stays under four nights; linens and extra supplies can be collected from room 2D. The property is entirely non-smoking, and pets are not allowed. Parking is not on site, but the hotel offers a discounted parking arrangement with a nearby garage when booked directly.
