East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station is a 4-minute walk, providing direct access across the city. The Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island is about a 6-8 minute walk. The A21 airport bus stops on Nathan Road nearby, with buses every 10 minutes. The building entrance is in a lively area with markets, shops, and currency exchange counters; locating the correct lift (odd or even floors) is necessary, and the property is on a high floor. Harbour City, Kowloon Park, and the Avenue of Stars are all within a short walk.

Rooms at Mandarin Guest House are designed for budget-conscious travellers who prioritise location and cleanliness over space. Rooms are very compact - typical for central Hong Kong at this price point - and offer limited storage; some travellers found it necessary to keep luggage under the bed. Each room includes air conditioning, an electric kettle, a flat-screen TV, and a private bathroom with a bath and shower. Tiled floors are standard. A few rooms have windows, but many are internal or windowless. Some bathrooms are small wet-room style. Rooms are non-smoking. The guesthouse offers family rooms that can accommodate up to 5 guests, but there is no capacity for extra beds or cots.

The building's lower floors (part of Chungking Mansions) contain numerous inexpensive eateries, including Indian, halal, and local Cantonese options, as well as cafes and a food court.
