Fisherman's Wharf is about a 20-30 minute walk, and the historic marina and a public library are also within walking distance. Several restaurants, including Chinese, burgers, and steaks, are within 0.5 km. Bus route 28 runs down Lombard to the Golden Gate Bridge and Stonestown Mall, while route 30 goes to Union Station through Chinatown. Taxis and buses are readily available. The area is generally walkable during day and night, but the building itself is next to a boarded-up area. Road-facing rooms are subject to constant street noise, especially from Lombard Street traffic.

All rooms are private with a private bathroom. Room types include Deluxe Queen, which comes with a fridge. Bedrooms have an alarm clock. Rooms are described as large by some, but basic and often in need of renovation. Some units have a sitting area. Windows face the road (Lombard Street) and may not close or lock securely, introducing street noise and cold drafts. There is no air conditioning - only a fan or plug-in heater. Some rooms have no screen on the window. The building is older, and soundproofing is minimal: noise from adjacent rooms and above is audible. Bedding, pillows, and blankets have been noted as worn or insufficient. Some rooms have a microwave available in the lobby. Ceiling fans are not present in all units.
