MERRYL HOTEL, Paris

The hotel is situated on a quiet side street in the 18th arrondissement. La Chapelle Metro station (line 2) is a 2-minute walk, providing direct service to Anvers for Sacré-Cœur and Montmartre. Gare du Nord, with connections to Eurostar and Thalys, is reachable on foot in about 10-12 minutes. The immediate neighbourhood is lively and multicultural, with a high density of Indian, African, and Middle Eastern restaurants and grocery stores. However, several reports note that the streets around the metro station and the hotel can feel unsafe, especially at night, due to groups loitering and drug-related activity. Travellers arriving late or solo may prefer to take a taxi or ride-share from the station. For daytime exploration, the metro and bus network make it easy to reach central sights.

Guest rooms are basic but functional: each has a private bathroom with shower, hairdryer, and provided toiletries (shower gel and soap). Bed options include double, twin, and triple (with two beds). Triple rooms add a wardrobe and safe. Room size is small by Parisian standards; some have very tight bathrooms. A fan is provided in warmer months, as there is no air conditioning. No balconies are available. Noise levels vary: rooms facing the street can pick up traffic and pedestrian noise until late, while those overlooking the courtyard are quieter. Daily housekeeping is offered, though consistency has been mixed-some guests reported missed cleaning or poorly cleaned floors. The lift is extremely small (one person or one suitcase). Some rooms have been renovated with modern fixtures; others remain dated.

Breakfast is served in a dedicated breakfast room and includes bread, pastries, hot drinks, and cold items. The selection is basic, and some have found it limited for the price. A breakfast-to-go bag can be arranged for early departures. No lunch or dinner is served at the hotel. The surrounding area offers a wide range of affordable ethnic restaurants within a few minutes' walk-Indian, African, Turkish, and Middle Eastern cuisines are well-represented. French restaurants are scarce directly around the hotel, but the canal area (10 minutes on foot) provides additional dining variety. Several supermarkets and bakeries are also nearby for self-catering.
