PENFIELD SUITES, Montreal

The property sits on a quiet residential street in the downtown area, with a bus stop right at the corner. The nearest metro station (Guy-Concordia) is about a 10-minute walk downhill - the return walk is uphill and can feel steeper with luggage. Mount Royal Park is 2 km away, and the Underground City is 3 km from the property. Guests arriving by car can find free street parking, though spaces can be competitive. The area has numerous restaurants, cafés and shops within a five-minute walk, including Yakata, Qing Hua Dumpling, and Clementine Cafe, all 0.5 km away. The neighbourhood is considered safe and is popular with university students due to its proximity to Concordia University.

Accommodation includes double rooms with 2 beds, studios with 2 beds and suites with 1 bed. All units feature air conditioning, heating, a private bathroom with hairdryer, a TV, a mini-fridge and a filter coffee machine. Upper-floor rooms are generally more spacious and better lit, while some basement rooms include a shower integrated into the sleeping area - these are less private and tend to be damp after use. Rooms on the third floor require climbing steep stairs with no elevator. Some rooms have windows facing the street that let in traffic noise; road-facing units are less quiet than those at the back. The building is older and has been renovated, but several rooms show signs of wear - creaky beds, small bathroom dimensions, limited storage and cramped floor plans in the lower categories. Mattresses range from firmer to very soft depending on the individual unit, and the lack of soundproofing between floors means noise from neighbours can be audible.

Breakfast is not served at the property, and no communal dining area exists. Rooms are equipped with a filter coffee machine (standard cone filters) and a mini-fridge, plus initial coffee pods. A water dispenser with cups is available in the lobby. Guests planning longer stays will need to bring additional coffee supplies and perishables. The immediate neighbourhood offers a rich variety of dining within 0.5 km, including Szechuan cuisine, French patisseries, dumpling houses, and cafés. The property itself provides no cutlery, crockery or microwave, so eating in is limited to cold items stored in the mini-fridge.

Wellness and leisure facilities are not available within the building. The main recreational draw is Mount Royal Park (2 km away), which offers walking trails, lookouts and seasonal skating and boating. The property does have a guest laundry room in the basement (accessible after 17:00), which can be useful for extended stays. For relaxation, the surrounding neighbourhood provides a number of cafés and parks within walking distance.
