MINNA HOTEL, San Francisco

The hotel is on 6th Street near Market Street, placing you within walking distance of Union Square, the Financial District, and many downtown attractions. Public transport is excellent: BART is a five-minute walk, and buses and cable cars stop nearby. The immediate area has a high concentration of homeless individuals and open drug activity, which can feel intimidating day or night. The hotel itself is secure with locked doors, but walking in the surrounding streets after dark is not advisable. Using ride-shares or taxis for evening trips is recommended. There are several self-parking facilities within a few blocks, including the SFMTA Moscone Center Garage (open until 10pm). Street parking is extremely limited and not recommended for safety.

The guest rooms are small but functional, suitable primarily as a place to sleep. Each room has a single or double bed arrangement (some doubles are formed by two twin beds pushed together), a flat-screen TV, a sink, microwave, and a mini-fridge. There is no closet; hanging space is limited. The rooms do not have air conditioning; windows may open but are often not weather-sealed. The carpeted floors and furnishings show wear, and cleanliness consistency varies. The shared bathrooms are located on each floor, with separate shower stalls and toilet cubicles. Some floors have only one toilet and one shower, which can lead to waits during peak times. The communal bathrooms are cleaned daily but may not feel spotless at all hours. For a budget traveller who values location over in-room luxury, these accommodations meet basic needs.

The included breakfast is served in a dedicated dining room from 7:00 to 10:00. The spread is simple: toast with butter and jam, cereal, apples, coffee, tea, and juice. Coffee and tea are available free of charge from the dining area 24 hours a day. Red Door Coffee is located on the ground floor of the gallery building. It functions as a full café and bar during the day and serves coffee, pastries, and alcoholic beverages. The happy hour (8 draft beers, $10 house wine, $10 well drinks) is a popular option for a casual drink. If you prefer a wider selection of food, several restaurants are within a three-minute walk, including Frena, Chico's Pizza, and Monarch. The hotel's small kitchen also allows guests to prepare simple meals using the shared microwave and fridge.

The hotel is a budget property with limited on-site services. The 24-hour front desk can assist with check-in, lost key cards, and luggage storage before check-in or after check-out at no charge. Wi-Fi is free throughout the building and works reliably. A lift serves all floors, and there is a wheelchair ramp at the entrance. The shared kitchen on the first floor provides a microwave, fridge, and sink, and is open until midnight. There is no business center, but the front desk can arrange basic printing. Housekeeping is offered upon request (not automatically daily). A laundry room with coin-operated machines is available. The hotel is entirely non-smoking. The building uses key-card locks on the main entry, each floor, and the bathroom doors to enhance security.
