REEFHOUSE RESORT AND MARINA, Key Largo

The resort occupies a prime spot on the Gulf side of Key Largo, offering direct bay views and a private beach. Miami International Airport (MIA) is about 97 km away (roughly 1 hour drive), while Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) is approximately 100 km. No airport shuttle is available; Keys Shuttle is a recommended third-party option. The resort is 3 km from John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, making it convenient for snorkeling and coral reef access. Several restaurants and bars, including Sundowners and Senor Frijoles, are within a half-mile walk. The area is car-dependent for exploring attractions like Harry Harris Beach Park (15-minute drive) and the Theater of the Sea (31 km). Parking is free and on-site, but the lot can fill up quickly during busy periods.

Standard guest rooms accommodate up to four people with either two queen beds or a king bed with a sleeper sofa. They include island-inspired decor, a private bathroom with a shower/tub combo, a small refrigerator, ironing facilities, and an in-room safe. Not all rooms have balconies, and many facing the road (US 1) experience significant traffic noise. Rooms with bay views and balconies are quieter and offer better light. Suites are available in one-bedroom (king bed, living area, full kitchen, furnished balcony) and two-bedroom configurations, which may only have one bathroom. The Penthouse suite includes a king bedroom, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, a separate living room, a sofa bed, and a wrap-around balcony. Some suites have full kitchens with a stove, microwave, and dishwasher. Buildings have elevators but some floor levels require stairs, which can be inconvenient for those with heavy luggage. Room furnishings and decor are reported as dated in some units, while others are clean and comfortable. Air conditioning is available but can be noisy.

Gus' Grille serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a focus on locally-sourced seafood and modern American dishes, available from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM for breakfast (a la carte, not a buffet). Dinner service can be slow, but food quality is widely praised. Breezer's Tiki Bar is open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 AM, offering seafood appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizza, and a kids' menu, plus handcrafted cocktails and local beers. Flipper's Pool Bar serves lunch and dinner with a full menu of tacos, burgers, and customizable pizza alongside frozen tropical drinks and mojitos. All three venues are family-friendly and accommodate special diets (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free). A snack bar and vending machines are also available. Breakfast is not typically included in the room rate but can be added as a package option (Rise, Shine & Dine). Outside food and drink is not allowed at the pool area.

The outdoor swimming pool is heated and open year-round from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with a pool bar and ample loungers and umbrellas. The private beach area has a walk-in entry for swimming, though the water near the shore can be seaweedy and the bottom muddy in spots. Sun loungers and beach towels are provided free. The hot tub/Jacuzzi is free to use. The Opal Spa offers massages, facials, body scrubs, and wraps, with appointments recommended at least two weeks in advance; the spa is open Mon/Tue/Thu/Sat 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Wed/Sun 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and closed to children under 16. The fully equipped fitness center is open 24 hours. On-site activities include table tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball, basketball, cornhole, and pool tables. For water sports, Pirates Cove Watersports rents jet skis, paddleboards, and kayaks, and offers snorkeling/diving trips, fishing charters, and sunset cruises. The marina can accommodate boats up to 10.7 m for docking (free, on a first-come basis). Evening entertainment, live music, and live sports broadcasts are available free of charge.

Wi-Fi is free in all rooms and throughout the property. Parking is free with no reservation needed, but spaces can be tight during busy periods. The 24-hour front desk offers express check-in/check-out, luggage storage, and concierge service. An ATM/cash machine is on site. Coin-operated self-service laundry is located behind the lobby. The property has a lift and is accessible for guests with mobility needs, with accessible parking, pool lifts, and wheelchair-accessible rooms (32-inch door openings). Business facilities include meeting spaces (Largo Key Ballroom up to 200 guests, smaller breakout rooms) and catering. Safety features include 24-hour security, key card access, and in-room safes. Housekeeping is daily but can be variable; turndown service is not guaranteed. The resort is not all-inclusive. Pets are allowed with a fee (see Critical Operational Notes). Cots are available on request. The facilities include a gift shop and a shared lounge/TV area.
