SAFESTAY MADRID CENTRAL, Madrid

Set in a grand Madrid building, Safestay Madrid Central is just a 5-minute walk from Fuencarral Market and the lively Chueca district. Three metro stations are within 350 metres, and regular city buses stop right outside. Puerta del Sol, the Thyssen Museum and the Prado Museum are all reachable on foot in under 20 minutes. For the airport, take metro line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios, then line 10 to Alonso Martinez station, just a few blocks away. The neighbourhood is packed with restaurants, bars and shops; a supermarket is right next door. The area feels safe and central, ideal for exploring on foot or by transit.

Rooms range from 4- to 12-bed dormitories to private double and twin rooms, with either shared or private bathrooms. All dorms feature individual lockers (bring your own padlock or buy one at reception for €4) and each bed has a power socket and reading light. Most rooms include a balcony, and bed linen is supplied. Towels are available to rent for €3. Air conditioning is available but is centrally controlled and may be intermittent; rooms can get warm, particularly on upper floors. Central heating is provided floor by floor. Private rooms offer a lockable door. Some rooms have parquet floors. Lockers are sized for valuables, not oversized luggage. Room cleaning is not daily; housekeeping expectations should be managed accordingly.

Breakfast is available from 08:00 to 12:00, with two set options costing €3.25 and €5.50. There is no restaurant; dinner service is not consistently available. A bar and snack bar are on site, and vending machines provide drinks and snacks at any hour. The terrace bar operates separately and may require purchase for access during events. No kitchen facilities are open to guests - only a microwave and kettle are provided. For those wanting a wider variety, the surrounding streets offer many cafés, bakeries and supermarkets within a few minutes' walk.

The hostel has its own cinema room, a karaoke bar, and a pub, along with a chill-out lounge featuring computers and a giant map of Madrid. Free walking tours are offered regularly, and paid pub crawls and free movie nights are organised. The rooftop terrace bar is a pleasant spot but is frequently booked for private events, so access may be restricted during your stay. There is no swimming pool, spa, or wellness centre. The common areas are concentrated around the ground floor; space can feel limited when the terrace is closed or used for events.

Wi-Fi is free in all areas, though connectivity can be inconsistent in rooms. A 24-hour front desk handles late arrivals until 03:00, and the lift serves all five floors. Luggage storage is available for free before check-in on the arrival day; after check-out, it costs €3 per person until midnight - note that the storage room has limited capacity. Laundry service is offered for €7 (wash, dry and detergent). Lockers in rooms are secure but small; large suitcases may not fit. Ironing boards and irons are available in the laundry room at no charge. Key card access and CCTV provide security. There is no dedicated workspace, but working from common areas is permitted at any time. Staff can provide maps and city information.
