Myrtle Beach Mall is 8 km away and Family Kingdom Amusement Park is 11 km from the resort. The resort is centrally positioned for access to area sports complexes and golf courses. While the resort has free on-site parking, the public transit bus line is the only local public transportation option, making a car the most convenient way to explore farther attractions. Several restaurants, including Brass Anchor and Ocean View Cafe, are within a 0.5 km walk.

Sand Dunes Resort comprises eight buildings: Oceanfront Main (central hub with standard suites, efficiencies, and the 2-bedroom penthouse), North Tower (large 3-bedroom condos with ocean views), South Tower (1 and 2-bedroom executive suites), Tower II (1-bedroom suites about 100 yards from the beach), and Villas (side-view units near the water park). All suites are air-conditioned and feature flat-screen cable TVs, private bathrooms, and private balconies. Many include kitchenettes with stovetops, microwaves, refrigerators, and coffee makers; larger units have full kitchens, washer/dryer, and dining areas. Bed configurations range from two extra-long double beds in efficiencies to four queen beds in one-bedroom junior suites. Larger suites sleep up to 12. Soundproofing can be inconsistent, and some private units may vary in condition, so direct booking with the resort is recommended for the most consistent experience.

BEACHFRONT Kitchen & Bar, on the ground floor of the oceanfront building, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an ocean view. Its menu is American and has received positive feedback for food quality. Ava's Pizzeria & Ice Cream, located in the main building next to the convenience store, provides pizza and ice cream for casual meals. Salt & Lime Restaurant, inside the adjacent North Shore Hotel, offers Latin cuisine with American flair, family-style breakfasts, and a cocktail bar with ocean views and direct outdoor pool service. The Beachfront Bar, located on the oceanfront lawn next to the outdoor pool, serves drinks and has a lively atmosphere with occasional karaoke. Limited additional restaurants are within a short walk, including Pizza Shanty and Fish Shanty. The resort's on-site dining options are comprehensive enough that leaving the property for meals is not necessary.

The Sands Resorts Waterpark is a 130000-gallon facility with water slides, a lazy river, a children's splash area, and ample sun deck space. Beach access is immediate, with seasonal lifeguards and chair/umbrella rentals available. For indoor recreation, the resort offers an indoor heated pool and a large whirlpool whirlpool.
