SOHO ASAKUSA HOTEL, Tokyo

Soho Asakusa Hotel is situated in a neighbourhood with a mix of local shops and restaurants, including several eateries within a 5-minute walk. The area also contains many love hotels and a red-light district edge, so noise and street atmosphere can vary, especially on weekend nights. Ueno Zoo is a 15-minute drive away. For those arriving by car, no parking is available on-site, but coin-operated parking lots can be found nearby. The hotel entrance is on the second floor without a lift, requiring guests to carry their luggage up stairs.

Accommodation options include standard double rooms (with one double bed and a sofa bed, accommodating up to 3 persons), twin rooms with either 1 or 4 single beds, and two-bedroom apartment-style units (with two singles in each, or one double and one semi-double bed). Room type is allocated upon check-in, subject to availability. All rooms are air-conditioned and include a TV, fridge, microwave, electric kettle, and an en suite bathroom with a hairdryer. Apartment-style rooms add a full kitchen with cookware and a dining area. Some rooms feature a seating area and free toiletries. Note that room size can be small for three persons, and some bathrooms show signs of mold and moisture, with water often seeping through tile joints, leaving floors wet. Lighting in some rooms is controlled from the corridor, meaning that turning off the corridor light leaves the room in total darkness. The property has no lift, and the entrance is on the second floor.

Self-catering is straightforward in rooms with a kitchenette or full kitchen (apartment-style units include cookware, a microwave, a fridge, and an electric kettle). Plenty of local restaurants and food establishments are within a 0.3-0.5 km walk, including Sonpoun, Mire Mire Asakusa, Mishimaya, Chuka Yoshoku Yayoi, and several others. For those preferring to eat out, the neighbourhood offers a range of dining options, but no property-operated meal service is available.

Wi-Fi is free in all areas but performance can be inconsistent, sometimes dropping out or requiring frequent reconnection between access points. The hotel offers coin-operated laundry (additional charge) and luggage storage (free on check-in day from 9:00 and on checkout day only). Kitchenware and a DVD player can be borrowed for in-room use. Safety features include CCTV in common areas and outside, key access, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Housekeeping is available only on request, with no daily automatic service. The property has a designated smoking area but is otherwise non-smoking throughout, and family rooms are available. No pets are allowed. There is no on-site parking.
