The apartments sit on a lively main street lined with shops, cafés and pubs, and are within a 10-minute walk of Holyrood Park. Edinburgh Castle is reachable on foot in 15-20 minutes. The bus stop at the door provides frequent services to Princes Street and the city centre, making a car unnecessary for most visitors. Those arriving by car will find no on-site parking; the nearest secure car park is on St Leonards Street, less than 10 minutes away on foot (charges apply). The neighbourhood has several supermarkets and restaurants within a 5-minute walk, and the area feels safe and well-connected for exploring the Old Town and beyond.

One-bedroom apartments are basement-level with a king bed (can be two singles upon request), a shower room, and French doors opening to an outdoor patio. Two-bedroom apartments are on the 1st or 2nd floor (no lift), each with one king and one twin room - both can be made into singles or kings using zip-and-link beds. Three-bedroom apartments are on the 1st floor with two king bedrooms and one twin bedroom, plus a bathroom and an additional shower room. All apartments have free WiFi, flat-screen TVs with Netflix, heating, carpeted or parquet floors, and an iron. The kitchens include an oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, kettle, and cookware. A starter pack with tea, coffee, sugar, soap, washing-up liquid and toilet rolls is provided. The apartments are described as spacious, clean, warm and surprisingly quiet, with comfortable beds and high ceilings. The basement one-bedroom apartment has a private outdoor patio, while upper-floor units facing the courtyard are particularly quiet. The 3-bedroom basement apartment also has French doors to an outdoor area. Given the lack of a lift, light sleepers may prefer a courtyard-facing room.

The apartments do not have a restaurant or bar on the premises. The fully equipped kitchen (oven, microwave, hob, fridge/freezer) allows guests to cook their own meals. A starter pack of tea, coffee and sugar is provided. Within 0.5 km there are at least eight restaurants covering different cuisines: El Patio Cafe, Los Argentinos, Banks Restaurant, Verdo BBQ Restaurant, Annakut Restaurant, Strigicake, Hot Kung Fu, and Apiary. Several nearby restaurants offer a negotiated discount for apartment guests. The neighbourhood also has a pub, Southpour, which serves brunch and dinner. Supermarkets are within a 5-minute walk for groceries.

There is no spa, wellness centre or swimming pool at Southside Apartments. For outdoor leisure, Holyrood Park is a 10-minute walk away and provides walking and hiking trails up to Arthur's Seat with panoramic city views. The Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle are within a 15-20 minute walk. The neighbourhood itself has a lively street atmosphere with pubs, cafes and restaurants, and the bus stop at the door gives easy access to Princes Street Gardens and other city-centre attractions.
