The hotel sits on one of Toronto's most vibrant streets, surrounded by shops, restaurants, and cultural venues. Union Station, Rogers Centre, CN Tower, and Ripley's Aquarium are all within walking distance (around 15-20 minutes). A subway station is just a few steps away, and the streetcar stops directly outside, providing easy access across the city. The area is pedestrian-friendly, making it possible to explore many downtown attractions on foot.

The property is a three-story building with rooms on the upper two floors above the jazz bar. Accommodations range from single rooms to doubles, some with shared bathrooms (a sink is provided in-room; private toilets and showers are on the floor). Rooms with private bathrooms include a shower and hairdryer. All rooms feature air conditioning (operational only during summer) and heating. The decor is functional but dated, with small dimensions-suitcases may need to be placed on the floor. Road-facing rooms can be noisy due to street traffic and live music; rooms on higher floors or away from the street tend to be quieter. No in-room safes, mini-fridges, or closets are provided. The building has no elevator, so climbing stairs is required.

The Rex Hotel's own restaurant, The Rex Hotel, serves American and local cuisine for brunch, lunch, and dinner, with a lively bar atmosphere. Breakfast is available from 9:30 AM-hot items such as fried eggs, fried potatoes, cheese omelettes, and baked potatoes can be ordered for an additional fee (approx. 10-16 CAD). The bar offers coffee house service, wine, champagne, and kids' meals. While the breakfast is basic, the surrounding area provides many nearby restaurants within a short walk, including Ikkousha Ramen, Little India Restaurant, Planta Queen, and Pai Northern Thai Kitchen.

The on-site bar is the central leisure feature, hosting live jazz and blues performances daily. Hotel guests can attend for free (otherwise a cover fee may apply). Activities offered include evening entertainment (additional charge), free walking tours, and entertainment staff. There is a shared lounge/TV area, outdoor furniture, and a tour desk.
