U STREET CAPSULE HOSTEL, Washington

The hostel sits at the intersection of U Street and 14th Street, a lively area with nightlife, bars, and restaurants. The metro entrance is directly outside, making transport easy. Walking distances: White House 3 km, Washington Monument 3 km, National Mall 4 km, Newseum 4 km. The area is walkable and safe during the day, but is busy with homeless individuals around the neighborhood; nighttime solo travel requires caution. Street parking is available but not secure, and overnight parking in nearby lots is free. The nearest airport is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, 10 km away; Dulles International Airport is accessible via the Silver and Green lines with one transfer, or a USD 5 shuttle to the metro.

Accommodation options include single rooms with private bathroom (walk-in shower, bidet, hairdryer, desk, seating area, city views) and capsule beds in dormitory rooms. Capsules are made of plastic with a mattress, privacy curtain, reading light, USB ports, and a small fan. Capsules measure approximately 2.1 m long and 1.2 m wide, suitable for most sleepers, including those over 1.8 m tall. The capsules can get hot due to weak ventilation, and noise carries from the hallway and neighbouring pods. Light sleepers should request a capsule away from doors and avoid the first floor. Private rooms on higher floors are quieter. Some capsules show wear (cracked plastic, broken USB ports, stains on mattresses). Lockers in dorm rooms are small and may not fit a large suitcase; securing valuables in the main locker room is recommended. Daily housekeeping is provided, covering sheets and towels.

The hostel offers a range of free leisure activities: live sport events (broadcast) are shown in the common area, stand-up comedy nights are held, and temporary art exhibitions are displayed in the building. Guests can play darts and hire bikes for exploring the city. Board games and puzzles are available. The shared lounge and TV area provides a space to relax or socialize. Free beer and pizza events are hosted on select nights (e.g., Free Beer Friday). A small coffee shop in the lobby also serves as a hangout space.

The property provides a wide array of services. Wi-Fi is free in all areas. Luggage storage is free and available from 7 AM to midnight, but is located in the lobby and not always attended. Lockers are available in dorm rooms but are small; a larger locked storage room is accessible via staff during front desk hours. Daily housekeeping is free. Laundry is available for an additional charge (USD 5 per load). Express check-in/out is offered through a digital app (Goki). The property has a lift and is wheelchair accessible, with accessible bathrooms featuring grab rails and raised toilets. 24-hour security includes CCTV, key card access, fire extinguishers, and smoke alarms. Pets allowed on request with charges. No parking on-site. Shared lounge/TV area provided. A coffee shop operates on the ground floor. Staff presence is limited; mobile app is essential for access.
