VERVE HOTEL, New York

The hotel is in a predominantly industrial area that is undergoing redevelopment. The streets around the hotel can be quiet at night, but the area is safe. Three subway stations (39th Ave, Queens Plaza, and Queensboro) are within a few minutes' walk, offering easy access to Manhattan via the N, Q, R, 7, and E trains. The neighborhood lacks extensive dining options but a handful of restaurants and stores are within a 10-minute walk. For airport transfers, LaGuardia is closest; car service to LGA costs about $25. Taxis from Manhattan can occasionally struggle to find the hotel, so arranged car service offers more reliability.

Rooms are generously sized by New York standards. The bathrooms are equipped with Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries, a hairdryer, and a bathtub. Each room has an iron and ironing board, and daily housekeeping replenishes towels and coffee supplies. Depending on the floor plan, some rooms feature a separate living area with a microwave. Noise from elevated trains can be heard in rooms on certain sides; a request for a quiet room can be made at check-in. Air conditioning units are effective but can be noisy. Closet space is limited in some rooms; valuables should be stored at the front desk. The bed pillows are notably fluffy, which may appeal to those who prefer soft support.

The breakfast buffet includes make-your-own waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, bagels, toast, fresh fruit, and a choice of cereals. Orange and apple juice are provided, and a 24-hour hot beverage machine dispenses coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The breakfast area also has an outdoor deck for warmer days. While the spread is filling, the use of plastic plates and cutlery may feel casual. For lunch or dinner, the hotel does not have a restaurant, but several dining options are within a short walk, including pizza, steakhouse, Thai, and a coffee shop. The front desk can recommend delivery services and provide menus upon request.

The fitness room contains a treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical trainer, and a Bowflex strength machine. A sauna is available. The laundry room has one washer and dryer free of charge; detergent can be purchased for $1. An air hockey table is located next to the laundry room, and a ping pong table is in the garage. These facilities are available for use.

Check-in is at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00. Luggage can be left at reception both before check-in and after check-out. Pets are not allowed. Free public parking is available nearby without reservation; the hotel also offers underground parking for $25 per 24-hour period, though the spaces are very tight. A car service to LaGuardia (approximately $25) and other airports can be arranged through reception. The staff are multilingual and happy to provide subway maps, directions, and local recommendations. A meeting room is available for groups. A luggage scale is located in the lobby for convenience.
