A&O BERLIN KOLUMBUS, Berlin

The hotel stands in a converted GDR-era housing block in Lichtenberg, a quiet residential area away from the city centre. Public transport is the most practical way to reach central attractions: the tram stop is a 5-minute walk and connects directly to Alexanderplatz in about 35 minutes. A bus stop is across the street, and the nearest grocery store and a shopping mall are within a 5- to 10-minute walk, making self-catering convenient. For drivers, the hotel offers on-site private parking (reservation mandatory, €12.50/day), with free street parking available on surrounding streets during weekends. Parking is limited and unreserved requests may go unanswered, so pre-booking is strongly advised.

All rooms come with a private bathroom, flat-screen TV with satellite channels, heating, and parquet flooring. Room sizes range from 20 to 23 m2, providing a generous amount of space for a budget hotel. Family rooms feature a separate sleeping area with bunk beds for children, and bed linen and towels are provided - though some bunk beds may require guests to fit the covers themselves. Rooms lack air conditioning and mini-bars; in summer, rooms can become very warm, and only a limited number of fans are available (for a fee). Sound insulation between rooms and corridors is thin, making noise from neighbours or hallways a potential issue, especially on lower floors and during busy periods. Road-facing rooms may also experience street noise. The shared-bathroom dormitory rooms are also available, but cleanliness and comfort in shared facilities have been inconsistent. Overall, the accommodation is best suited to budget-conscious travellers who prioritise space and location over modern decor or complete soundproofing.

The hotel provides a few on-site leisure options: a billiard table (pay-per-use), free karaoke equipment, and occasional live music performances. The lobby features a children's play corner with toys and a popcorn machine, which is particularly popular with families. There is no spa, swimming pool, sauna, or gym. The surrounding Lichtenberg area offers a large park with lakes and slides within a 15-minute walk, providing outdoor recreation during warmer months. For evening entertainment, the lobby bar remains open all night and features satellite sports channels on TV.
