APARTAMENTOS LA PENITA, Puerto del Carmen (Lanzarote)

The complex sits directly behind the main strip, with multiple gated exits leading to the seafront and the pedestrian area in under a minute. There are at least a dozen restaurants and bars within 500 m, covering cuisines from Chinese (Peking Duck) to Italian (Mr. Pasta). A supermarket is just outside the complex, and a larger grocery store is a two-minute walk. Lanzarote Airport is a 10-minute drive (about €15 by taxi). The location is flat, and the complex is not on a hill, making it walkable for most people. The main entrance is level, though some apartments require climbing stairs inside.

Each apartment includes one separate bedroom (with three single beds or a twin and a single sofa bed), a seating area with a sofa and satellite TV, and a private bathroom with a bathtub and overhead shower. The kitchenette is equipped with a stovetop, fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Standard apartments may have a balcony or terrace; sea-view apartments are always top-floor with a balcony. There are no two-bedroom apartments. Ceiling fans are in the bedroom, and standalone fans are in the living area - no air conditioning. Some rooms face the pool, others face the street or the main strip; road-facing apartments can be noisier, especially near bars. Building noise between adjoining apartments is noticeable (audible from neighbouring bathrooms and showers). Mattress firmness varies: some find them comfortable, others very hard. Housekeeping includes fresh towels every two days and full cleaning every second day.

The pool bar is open all year and offers a varied menu of breakfast items (including pancakes with Nutella and breakfast wraps), along with lunch and snacks such as burgers and salads. Prices are reasonable. Happy hours run from 12:00-13:00 and 16:00-17:00, offering discounts on certain drinks. The bar has a few evenings of live music per week and bingo one afternoon. Drinks are reasonably priced (e.g., mojitos are popular). There is no separate restaurant. Breakfast is available for a small charge (around €4 for a continental-style breakfast). The surrounding strip offers dozens of dining options within 100 m, including Chinese, Italian, and local Lanzarote cuisine.

The main pool is open all year and is salt-water (not heated). A free kids' pool is adjacent. Sun loungers and sun umbrellas are provided free of charge. Pool/beach towels can be rented from reception with a €20 deposit per towel (refundable on return). The pool area is cleaned daily and has a lifeguard (though presence may vary). A solarium and outdoor furniture surround the pool. For active leisure, the complex has a tennis court (chargeable: €15 for equipment hire), billiards, darts, and bingo. A children's playground is available. The nearest beach, La Peñita Beach, is just across the road, a 30-second walk from the complex.

Reception is open from 09:00 to 00:00 (until 10:00 in winter) and can arrange taxi bookings, excursion bookings, and mobility scooter charging during those hours. Luggage storage is available for early arrivals or late departures. A self-service laundry room costs €4 per wash and €4 per dryer cycle. A safety deposit box is available for an additional charge. The complex has secure gated access with multiple entrances, CCTV in common areas, and key access to individual blocks. The tour desk can assist with car and bicycle hire. Fax/photocopying is available for business use. Adapted apartments (3 in total, ground-floor near the pool) are available by prior arrangement for wheelchair users, with roll-in showers and level access.
