ARGYLL HOTEL, Glasgow

The hotel is on Sauchiehall Street, across from Kelvingrove Park and a short walk from Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum as well as the University of Glasgow. The Exhibition Centre Rail Station and M8 motorway are about 2 km away, making the OVO Hydro and Scottish Event Campus reachable in 10-15 minutes on foot. The city centre is a 20-30 minute walk, and bus route 77 stops nearby for direct access to the airport. Several restaurants, pubs, and bars are within a 5-minute walk, and the area suits guests attending concerts at the Hydro, visiting the university, or exploring the West End's galleries. For light sleepers, rooms facing the main road are subject to traffic noise and street activity, especially on weekend evenings.

Room types range from a compact basement-level single to double, twin, triple, and family rooms (some with a four-poster bed). Standard rooms are generally small - the compact single is a basement-level room next to the lift and restaurant, where noise and light disturbance may occur. Family rooms are reported as spacious and can accommodate up to five guests. All rooms include a private bathroom with a bath or shower; some standard rooms have a very compact shower cubicle. Walk-in shower rooms are available on request. Single rooms all have windows. The hotel uses electric heating and windows can be opened, but there is no air conditioning. Road-facing rooms are affected by traffic and pub noise, while rooms at the back are quieter. Some guests report street-facing rooms and pub noise as disruptive, particularly at weekends. The property feels older and carpets are worn in parts; selected rooms have been recently refreshed with modern bathrooms and USB points.

Breakfast includes a buffet with hot items, cereals, yoghurt, fresh bread, and toast. The selection varies and is described as decent and filling, though some find the cooked components underwhelming and the produce basic. The breakfast room is clean and the service is generally friendly, with the breakfast staff noted for being attentive. The Soul Food Kitchen restaurant (on site) serves brunch and lunch with vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options; it operates Wednesday to Sunday. The hotel also offers a snack bar, coffee house on site, kids' meals, special diet menus on request, wine/champagne, and breakfast-in-room service. There are several restaurants and pubs within a short walk for guests seeking variety.

The hotel's main leisure advantage is its immediate access to Kelvingrove Park, ideal for jogging, walks, or children's play. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a 5-minute walk away. The area is also good for exploring the university campus and the shops and restaurants of Byres Road. No on-site leisure facilities such as a pool, spa, or gym are available.
