AVID HOTELS - BROOKLYN DYKER HEIGHTS BY IHG, New York

The hotel sits off a main road in a safe, low-traffic neighbourhood lined with shops, fast-food chains, sit-down restaurants, and a large park within a few blocks. The 86th Street subway station (R line) is a ten-minute walk, providing a direct 25-40 minute ride to downtown Manhattan (the bus stops across the street also reach Manhattan). On-site parking is limited and restricted to sedans; free street parking is available but not always guaranteed. The Bay Ridge Municipal Parking Garage is the nearest alternative. Nearby landmarks include Coney Island (about 15 minutes by car) and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum (about 30 minutes by car or train). For cruise travellers, the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is within a 15-minute drive.

Rooms are compact but efficiently laid out, with double rooms available in one-queen or two-queen configurations. All units include a safe, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and an alarm clock. The bathrooms feature large walk-in showers with Dove-brand toiletries. The spacious double rooms offer slightly more floor area. Room atmospherics are generally quiet, though road-facing rooms and doors without dampers can transmit hallway and traffic noise. Windows can be opened for fresh air. The air conditioning is fully adjustable but has a minimum setting of 19 °C, which some may find insufficiently cool. Beds are consistently described as comfortable with quality pillows. The hotel is very clean and well-maintained, with no carpeting - tiled floors throughout help keep the space feel fresh and modern.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and is available until 9:30 AM on weekdays and slightly longer on weekends. The spread is simple but sufficient for a quick start: bagels, omelettes, yoghurt, fruit, cereal bars, and instant oatmeal. Seating in the breakfast area is limited, so arriving earlier helps avoid crowding. Items are not replenished after about 9:00 AM on weekdays, so early arrival is advised for the full choice. The 24/7 coffee station (free, fresh coffee and tea) is a popular feature for an anytime hot drink. The surrounding area offers numerous dining options within a short walk, including Italian (Annabelle's Pastaria, 0.5 km), sushi (Sushi Hana, 0.5 km), fast food (Five Guys, 0.5 km), and a Starbucks (0.5 km). A deli and a 24-hour convenience store are also steps away.

The gym is compact but includes a range of cardio and strength equipment suitable for a basic workout. It is accessible around the clock with a key card. There is no pool, spa, sauna or jacuzzi on the property. For outdoor leisure, the adjacent park (Dyker Beach Golf Course) is reachable in a few minutes on foot, and Coney Island's beach and boardwalk are about a 15-minute drive away.
