HOTEL 1868, Cambridge

The Porter Square Red Line station is literally across the street, giving direct access to Harvard Square (one stop) and downtown Boston in about 20 minutes. A bus stop is in front of the hotel, and the area is very walkable: Harvard University is about a 20-minute walk or quick subway ride. Grocery stores, a Target, CVS, and numerous restaurants (including ramen, sushi, and American diners) are within a 5-minute walk. Logan Airport is 11 km away; a taxi or rideshare costs approximately $40-50. The hotel does not provide airport shuttle service, but the T provides a direct connection via the Red Line to South Station for the Silver Line bus to the airport.

The hotel offers two room categories: Budget Queen (~15 m²) and Standard Queen (~19 m²). Both are on the small side, so pack light. Each room features a Smart TV, safety deposit box, air conditioning, a window seat, and storage drawers under the bed. The private bathrooms have walk-in showers (no bathtubs) with premium bath products - but bathroom counter space is minimal. Bedrooms have a desk with a stool and an iron. Housekeeping is only upon request (request at reception). Noise can be an issue in road-facing rooms and on lower floors; rooms above the lobby or facing the street may pick up traffic or pedestrian signals. The air conditioning unit can blow directly onto the bed in tight rooms; some rooms have difficulty adjusting the temperature via the AC. There is no in-room fridge or microwave, but a fridge can be borrowed from the front desk subject to availability; a microwave is available in the basement common area.

For breakfast or a quick bite, Caffe Nero is located on the ground floor and offers coffee drinks, pastries, and sandwiches (paid). Many restaurants are within a 5-minute walk, including ramen, pizza, burgers, Indian, and American diners. A large grocery store is across the street for self-catering. There is no full restaurant or bar on site, and no room service. The hotel provides complementary bottled water, coffee, and tea in the room and in the basement business centre, where a microwave and ice machine are also available.

The fitness room includes cardio machines, free weights, and strength-training equipment - enough for a thorough workout. It is located in the basement and is accessible via the lift. Complimentary water, coffee, and tea are available just outside the gym. There is no pool, spa, or other leisure facilities on site. The business centre adjacent to the gym provides a quiet workspace with free use of computers and printing.

Wi-Fi is free and reliable throughout the hotel. The 24-hour front desk offers concierge service and express check-in/out. Luggage storage is free if you arrive before check-in or after check-out. Valet parking costs $28 per night with unlimited in/out - reservation not needed. Daily housekeeping is provided on request only. The business centre has computers, printing, and a workspace. The hotel is wheelchair accessible with an elevator, accessible parking, and accessible rooms (shower chair on request).
