DUTCH DESIGN HOTEL VONDELPARK, Amsterdam

The hotel sits on a peaceful street in Amsterdam's upscale Oud Zuid district, directly bordering Vondelpark. The Amstelveenseweg tram stop is 300 metres away and serves tram line 2 direct to Museumplein, Dam Square and Central Station - city centre access in around 10-15 minutes. The bus stop for Schiphol Airport is also nearby. P.C. Hooftstraat shopping street is a 20-minute walk. The area has several restaurants, a supermarket and cafes within a short walk, and the Olympic Stadium is within comfortable walking distance.

Room sizes are small, particularly the single and double rooms, which are around 9 m2 and can feel very cramped for two people with luggage. Bed sizes: Double (1.40 m), Queen (1.60 m), King (1.80 m). Storage is minimal - wall hooks and a small open shelf take the place of a wardrobe, and there is no desk or chair, so sitting space is limited to the bed. All rooms have a private bathroom with a shower, a hairdryer, and free toiletries. Windows can be opened from the top for ventilation but cannot be fully opened for safety reasons. Rooms on the ground floor are exposed to noise from the reception, kitchen, and patio seating; rooms on higher floors are markedly quieter. Some rooms have a motion-sensor bathroom light that may turn on and off unexpectedly and can shine into the bedroom at night. No rooms have balconies or tea/coffee facilities.

The breakfast buffet is continental-style with bread, pastries, cheese, meat, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee. The offering is simple and adequate, not extensive. Breakfast is charged at €9.50 per person if not included in your room rate - be sure to check your booking confirmation. The breakfast room is small and busy during peak hours, but the free coffee, tea and juice are available all day from the same area, which is a useful perk. The hotel does not have a restaurant or room service, and outside food may be consumed in the breakfast room. Numerous restaurants, cafes, and a supermarket are within a 5-10 minute walk, including Italian, Thai, and Dutch options.

The hotel does not have a spa, wellness centre, pool or fitness facilities. The main leisure option is bicycle rental, available at the hotel for an additional charge. Vondelpark, Amsterdam's largest and most popular park, is literally at the doorstep and offers walking and cycling paths, picnic areas, and a peaceful natural setting. The hotel also has a garden and picnic area for outdoor relaxation.

Wi-Fi is free and available in all areas. The hotel has a lift, air conditioning and heating. Safety features include key-card access, CCTV in common areas, security alarms, and a safety deposit box (free). Luggage storage is free for early arrivals or late departures. Reception is staffed 24 hours and offers express check-in/out, a tour desk, and vending machines for drinks and snacks. Bicycle rental is available for a fee. A private airport transfer can be arranged for €45, but no shuttle service is offered. The hotel cannot guarantee early or late check-in/out without a special request.
