COEO HERNAN RUIZ ROOFTOP POOL HOSTEL, Malaga

All rooms feature air conditioning, a private entrance, tiled floors, and a private or shared bathroom with shower and hairdryer. Double rooms and single rooms may have shared bathrooms, while quadruple rooms, family rooms and most dormitories have private bathrooms. The private rooms are compact - some single pods measure around 5-9 m2 - and are designed as individual sleeping capsules with sliding doors for privacy. Sound insulation between rooms is limited; noise from hallway doors, neighbouring pods, and the street (especially when windows are open) can be significant. Light sleepers may benefit from the free earplugs provided at check-in. Beds are comfortable with two pillows, and each berth includes a privacy curtain or sliding door, a reading light, and a lockable drawer (operated by the electronic key card) for valuables. In dormitories, the bathrooms and showers are inside the room, which can create noise and limited privacy. Rooftop kitchen access is available, but there is no stove for cooking.

Breakfast is available for 14 EUR per person and is served from 08:00 to 22:00 daily at Bartola. The breakfast menu is varied and includes options for different tastes; many choose to include it when booking. For lunch and dinner, Bartola offers dishes ranging from Spanish classics to international and European food, including vegetarian choices. The rooftop pool bar operates from 10:00 to 22:00 and serves drinks and snacks poolside. The hostel also offers a welcome drink (often sangria) that can be redeemed at the bar. In addition, there is a small kitchen on the rooftop with a fridge and basic equipment, though there is no stove for cooking full meals. The surrounding area has numerous restaurants and cafés within a 2-5 minute walk, including local spots like Los Gatos, Cantina El Calambrito and Ramen Nogacu.

The pool is not heated, so it can be refreshingly cool outside summer months. The rooftop also features a small terrace with seating and sun loungers, and a kitchen area. Walking tours are offered free of charge, and the hostel organizes daily social activities such as events and meetups, often coordinated through a WhatsApp group. The pool bar serves drinks and food during opening hours, making it easy to spend time on the rooftop without leaving the property. The pool is compact and can feel crowded at peak times, but it remains a popular spot for relaxing and meeting other travellers. For guests wanting a quieter experience, the common areas on the ground floor and the rooftop offer different atmospheres.

Reception is staffed around the clock, making late check-in and early departures straightforward. The property has a lift, air conditioning throughout, and key-card access for security. CCTV operates in common areas, and there are smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Free WiFi is available in all areas, though some guests have found the signal weak in certain rooms; the staff can provide an alternative network if needed. Luggage storage is free before check-in (from arrival until 3 PM) and costs €3 for the full day after check-out. Oversize luggage can be stored in larger secure areas upon request. Daily housekeeping is offered for an extra charge, and in private rooms cleaning typically happens every three days unless arranged otherwise. Laundry facilities (washing machines) are on site. The hostel does not have a dedicated business centre, but the lobby and common areas offer space for working with a laptop. No parking is available on site, but two secure underground car parks are within a 5-minute walk.
