DOUGLAS HOTEL, Glasgow

The neighbourhood is predominantly residential, providing a peaceful setting despite being only 25minutes from the city centre by direct bus. A bus stop 300m from the hotel offers semi-express services to Glasgow Central and other key points; Yoker train station is a 10-minute walk away. For drivers, the hotel's position gives easy access to the road network, and free street parking is almost always available. Winter sports can be pursued in the surrounding hills, and essential shops, a supermarket, and several takeaway outlets are within walking distance.

Each room features carpeted floors, a wardrobe, heating, and an electric kettle. Showers are consistently described as powerful and well-maintained, with complimentary toiletries and hairdryers provided. The rooms are notably spacious and spotlessly clean, with daily housekeeping that restocks tea, coffee, and milk, changes towels, and makes the bed. Beds are widely rated as very comfortable, and the en-suite bathrooms are modern and well-finished. Some rooms are named after characters from the film Trainspotting 2, which used the property as a location. The overall atmosphere is practical and simple, making the hotel particularly suitable for solo business travellers, workers, and budget-conscious guests who prioritise cleanliness, quiet, and value over luxury.

For recreation, guests can make use of the surrounding area's winter sports opportunities or explore nearby parks such as Glasgow Botanic Gardens (8km) and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (8km). The quiet residential location also lends itself to walking and jogging, but there are no dedicated wellness amenities within the hotel itself.

All rooms have free WiFi (reliable and strong based on consistent feedback). Express check-in/out and private check-in/out are available, and luggage storage is free of charge. Daily housekeeping is thorough, with towels changed and tea/coffee replenished. The building is secure with key-entry access, smoke alarms, and fire extinguishers. The reception team is known for going beyond standard service - offering lifts, helping with luggage, and even arranging alternate accommodation at short notice if needed. Parking is free on the street or at a nearby public lot (no reservation). No pets are accepted, and payment is by Visa or Maestro.
