Located one block from the iconic Dragon Gate, the hotel sits at the junction of Chinatown, Union Square, and the Financial District. The Montgomery Street BART station is a 9-minute walk, providing direct rail service to San Francisco International Airport and Amtrak connections from Oakland. Most of downtown's attractions - including the Moscone Center (6 blocks), Fisherman's Wharf (30-minute walk), and AT&T Ball Park (13 blocks) - are accessible on foot or by cable car. The immediate streets are filled with Chinese restaurants, bakeries, and markets, while the shopping and dining of Union Square are a 7-minute walk. The area is generally safe and well-connected by public transport, making a car optional for most visitors.

Each room includes a flat-screen cable TV, satellite channels, a work desk, free Wi-Fi, and a hairdryer. Some top-floor rooms offer city views. The historic building means that some rooms and bathrooms are compact, and there is no air conditioning - San Francisco's cool climate makes this manageable, though windows can be opened. Internal rooms tend to be quieter, while street-facing rooms may experience traffic noise. Bed firmness varies; travellers sensitive to a hard mattress may wish to request a foam topper. The lift serves upper floors but can be slow. Reception can provide irons, sewing kits, toothbrushes, and kettles on request.

Complimentary coffee and tea are available at the reception area each morning. Beyond that, the surrounding streets are packed with dining options: the restaurants of Chinatown are directly outside, including Café De La Presse, Rock Japanese Cuisine, and numerous dim sum parlours. The Grant Plaza Hotel does not have a spa, pool, or fitness centre. Leisure options are concentrated on exploring the surrounding neighbourhoods on foot - historic Chinatown walking tours, cable car rides to Fisherman's Wharf, and the shopping and entertainment of Union Square are all within a 10-minute walk.

The 24-hour front desk staff can assist with tours, fax/photocopying, and luggage storage. Daily housekeeping is available on request (must be arranged 24 hours in advance). A safety deposit box is provided free of charge. Parking is available at a nearby garage - a special rate of US$32.95 per day at the 450 Sutter Garage (including in-and-out privileges) is offered; stop at reception for a validation slip. An electric vehicle charging station and accessible parking spots are also on site. The property features lifts, key card access, CCTV in common areas, and smoke alarms. Rollaway beds are available for an extra charge of US$10 per night plus tax. No airport shuttle is provided.
