JAMES HOTEL, Miami Beach

The hotel sits in Miami Beach's best-rated area, within easy walking distance of Lincoln Road Mall, the Miami Beach Convention Center, and dozens of restaurants, shops, and bars. Public transport is convenient: Miami buses 20, 14, and 15 stop nearby, providing connections to downtown and the airport. The Port of Miami is about 10 minutes away by taxi, making the hotel a practical choice for pre-cruise stays. Despite its central location, the area remains relatively quiet at night, though some street noise can be heard in rooms facing the road. Free on-site parking is a major advantage in this otherwise expensive and congested part of Miami Beach.

Guest rooms are described as compact and simply furnished, with some feeling older than shown in photos. Each room includes a private bathroom (available upon selection), a desk, ironing facilities, a hairdryer, and free toiletries. Beds are typically double or full-size, and some mattresses are reported as worn or uncomfortable. Rooms facing the street or on lower floors can be noisy from hallway and outside sounds. Air conditioning units are window-mounted and can be loud. Limited natural light is common in interior-facing rooms. A wardrobe with hangers and a safety deposit box at reception are available. Rooms do not have balconies. Extra beds (rollaway) can be requested for a nightly fee.

Mornings at James Hotel start with free coffee and pastries (often donuts) set up in the lobby, which can be enjoyed in the seating area or on the sun terrace. No hot breakfast, cooked food, or full meal service is provided. For a fuller meal, the surrounding area offers numerous cafés, delis, and restaurants within a short walk, including Cuban coffee and pastries around the corner. A vending machine with drinks is also on site. Guests wanting to prepare simple meals can use the in-room microwave and small refrigerator, but no plates, cutlery, or cooking equipment are supplied.

The 24-hour front desk can assist with luggage storage, taxi calls, and requests such as an extra bed or daily housekeeping. Daily housekeeping and safety deposit boxes are provided at no extra charge. A business centre with computer and printer is available. The hotel is fully air-conditioned and offers a lift for accessibility, including wheelchair-accessible rooms with grab rails and raised toilets. Parking is free but limited to about 25 spaces on a first-come, first-served basis; when full, paid street parking or a paid lot across the street is the alternative. No airport or cruise port shuttle exists. Payment can be made by American Express, Visa, Discover, or MasterCard; no deposit is required, but a valid credit card and photo ID are mandatory.
