MAD MONKEY KINGS CROSS (ADULTS ONLY), Sydney

The hostel is situated in the vibrant Kings Cross neighbourhood, surrounded by bars, restaurants, and cafes. Kings Cross train station is a 2-minute walk away, providing direct trains to the CBD and Bondi Junction for beach access. Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge are within walking distance via the Royal Botanic Garden, about a 30-minute stroll. Rushcutters Bay Park is a short walk away, offering harbour views and a relaxing escape from the city. The location is central enough that you can easily walk to Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, or the CBD. For airport transfers, take the train to Central Station, then the T4 line to Kings Cross.

Mad Monkey Kings Cross offers dormitory accommodation only - no private rooms are available. Options include 4, 8, 10, and 14-bed mixed or female-only dorms. Each bed comes with a reading light, individual power point, high-quality mattress and linen, plus a large, sturdy locker with a hanging rack (BYO padlock). The lockers are 45cm wide, 85cm deep, and 55cm high, with space underneath for a suitcase. The 10-bed dorm features a private en-suite bathroom and is newly refurbished. All rooms have air conditioning that can also heat during winter, though the AC in the 14-bed room has been reported as unreliable. Windows can be opened for ventilation if needed. Some rooms have private bathrooms (select during booking). The building has no lift, but staff can assist with luggage. Bathrooms are shared (1 toilet and 2 showers per floor) and are cleaned daily.

The hostel does not have its own restaurant or paid breakfast, but provides a well-equipped shared kitchen with top-range cookers, ovens, and utensils for cooking your own meals. Free barista coffee is available every morning at the Happy Travels travel shop located on the ground floor. The hostel hosts free dinners (e.g., Tuesdays) and free drinks events (e.g., Fridays and Saturdays), as well as complimentary tea and coffee in the common area. Note that kitchen and fridge space can be limited, especially during peak hours, and there have been reports of food theft, so it is advisable to label your food and use secure storage.

The hostel has a partnership with Anytime Fitness Glebe, located a 4-minute walk away, providing free access for up to 90 minutes per day (passes available from reception 9am-5pm). This is a fully equipped gym. The hostel does not have a swimming pool, spa, or on-site fitness centre. For leisure, there is a TV/gaming room with arcade machines, darts, and a cinema room with Netflix. The entertainment staff organises free events every night, including movie nights, trivia, free dinner nights, and pub crawls (additional charge). The Kings Cross area is known for its nightlife, and the hostel offers discounted tickets for pub crawls.

Free ultrafast WiFi is available throughout the property. Luggage storage is offered both before check-in and after check-out, as well as during your stay. Laundry facilities are available for an additional charge (washer and dryer). A vending machine dispenses drinks. The hostel provides large lockers in every room (BYO padlock) and a luggage room for suitcases. Security features include CCTV in common areas, smoke alarms, and fire extinguishers. There is no lift, but staff can assist with bags. The shared lounge/TV area includes a cinema room with Netflix and a comfortable seating area. The on-site Happy Travels shop can help with booking tours and activities. No airport shuttle is available.
