RESIDENCE INN BY MARRIOTT SAN DIEGO DOWNTOWN, San Diego

The hotel is located 0.3 km from the cruise terminal (a 5-minute drive or 15-minute walk) and within a short stroll of Little Italy's many dining options, including Monello, Ironside Fish & Oyster, and Buon Appetito. The San Diego Trolley (Little Italy stop) is 5 minutes away on foot, providing direct links to the Gaslamp Quarter, Balboa Park, and Old Town. Santa Fe Depot is also nearby for Amtrak and Coaster connections. The airport is minutes away by car or ride-share. For events, the convention center is a 25-minute walk, and Seaport Village, USS Midway, and the Embarcadero boardwalk are all within a 10-15 minute walk. Drivers should note that on-site parking costs $40/day and street parking is metered; ride-share services are a practical alternative.

Room options include queen studios with a sofa bed, one-bedroom queen suites (queen bed plus sofa bed; bathroom accessed through the bedroom), and two-bedroom queen suites (two queen beds, sofa bed, and two full bathrooms). All units feature a kitchen with a stove top, full-size refrigerator, cookware, and dishes. Air conditioning is provided (some rooms use portable units), and heating is available. Some suites offer views of the San Diego harbor or the courtyard. The property is somewhat dated, and maintenance issues such as slow-draining showers, loud air conditioning units, and worn fixtures have been reported. Train noise can be audible in rooms facing the tracks; higher floors and courtyard-facing rooms are quieter. Housekeeping is provided daily but may require a request; the sofa bed mattress is thin. Overall, the rooms are clean and spacious, making the hotel suitable for travelers who prioritize location and kitchen facilities over modern decor.

Breakfast is included in the rate and offers a standard American buffet with eggs, fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, and hot items. The dining area is small and can become crowded during peak hours; it is common for guests to take their breakfast back to their rooms or enjoy it by the pool. The hotel provides a grocery shopping service for those who wish to cook in their kitchen, and there is a convenience store nearby. For dining out, Little Italy is a two-block walk with dozens of restaurants ranging from casual to upscale. No restaurant, bar, or room service is available on the property.

The outdoor swimming pool is heated and open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with sun loungers and complimentary pool towels. The fitness centre is accessible around the clock and includes treadmills, elliptical trainers, dumbbells, benches, a cable machine, and kettlebells. The courtyard also features an outdoor fireplace and gas BBQ grills for guest use. Bicycle rental is available on-site. For additional leisure, basketball and pickleball courts are directly across the street, and the waterfront boardwalk is perfect for walking or jogging. The pool area is well-maintained and family-friendly, with toys and equipment available.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, though some users have found the connection unreliable for streaming or work. The 24-hour front desk offers express check-in/out, luggage storage, and an ATM. Self-service laundry is available on the lobby level (coin-operated), and dry cleaning can be arranged for an additional fee. Pets are welcome (up to two, each under 18 kg) with a one-time $100 fee. Accessibility features include wheelchair access, grab rails in bathrooms, Braille signage, and an emergency cord. Parking is private on-site but costs $40 per day with no advance reservation; the lot is outdoors and may have transient activity at night. No airport shuttle operates from the hotel; ride-share or taxi is recommended. Security includes CCTV, key card access, and smoke alarms.
