RYOKAN KAMOGAWA ASAKUSA, Tokyo

The ryokan sits on a quiet side street just off the bustling Nakamise shopping street, offering peaceful nights despite being in the heart of Asakusa. Asakusa Station (Toei and Tokyo Metro) is a 5-minute walk via a direct underground passage with traditional shops. Tobu Train Station is also 5 minutes away, providing direct access to Nikko and other destinations. Tokyo City Air Terminal is a 10-minute drive, and Haneda Airport is reachable via the Keisei line with one transfer. Numerous restaurants, convenience stores, and a 24-hour Don Quixote are within a few minutes' walk. The area is safe and lively in the evening.

Room options include single (1 futon), double (2 futons), and triple (3 futons) - all with private bathrooms featuring a bath, shower, bidet, hairdryer, and slippers. Each room is equipped with a Japanese tea set, fridge, flat-screen TV, safe, yukata robe, and wardrobe. Some rooms have a separate living area with sliding doors, and the larger rooms are notably spacious for Tokyo. The futons are widely considered comfortable, and traditional decor creates a calm atmosphere. Note that a few rooms lack windows - guests preferring natural light should request a windowed room at booking. The building has an elevator and all rooms are non-smoking.

The ryokan does not serve any meals - breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Instead, the reception provides a detailed map of nearby restaurants and eateries that suit various tastes, including halal options and a wide range of Japanese cuisine (sushi, ramen, tempura, etc.). The lounge area on the ground floor is stocked with free coffee, tea, water, ice pops, and small sweets for guests to enjoy at any time. For takeaway or convenience items, a 24-hour Don Quixote and several convenience stores are within a 4-minute walk.

The private bath is a key feature - guests can book a half-hour slot daily for a relaxing soak. The water is not from a natural hot spring, but the experience is very popular for unwinding after a day of sightseeing. The bath is clean and can be used by guests with tattoos. In the common lounge, cultural activities are offered free of charge: origami, Japanese calligraphy, paper sumo, spinning tops, and board games. These are particularly enjoyable for families and provide a hands-on taste of Japanese tradition.

Wi-Fi is free in all areas. The ryokan provides daily housekeeping, private check-in/check-out, and a safety deposit box in each room. Luggage storage is available on check-in day (before 15:00) and after checkout until 6pm (Mondays until 1:30pm). The front desk can assist with luggage forwarding to your next destination - a nearby Yamato transport office is less than 5 minutes away. Courier deliveries can be received at the hotel, but outgoing shipments are not handled. There is no laundry service, but the staff can direct you to nearby coin laundries (one 5 minutes away with app-based payment).
