For central Liverpool, the No 82 bus runs from nearby stops into town in about 15 minutes, offering a £2 single fare. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from Liverpool John Lennon Airport and also from Liverpool ONE shopping centre. Free parking on site makes this location practical for drivers, though the car park has limited spaces. A nearby dual carriageway can be heard in some rooms, especially those at the rear or facing the road.

Room sizes vary significantly. Some rooms are very compact-single or small doubles with limited space for luggage-while others are more spacious with park views. The Double Room with Private External Bathroom has a private bathroom across the corridor; all other room types have an en suite shower room. Bedding can be configured as a double or twin on request; specify at booking in the Special Requests section. Rooms with single glazing on the main road can be noisy; requesting a room away from Aigburth Road is sensible for light sleepers. Heating is controllable via individual radiators, but some rooms lack an easy temperature control. Several rooms have only a velux window in the bathroom, making them feel enclosed. The hotel has undertaken refurbishments and many rooms are now presented in good condition, though some older décor and maintenance issues may still be present in certain areas.

Breakfast is served from 8:00-10:00 (or 9:00 on weekdays) and includes a choice of cooked options such as full English and vegetarian or vegan alternatives, with lighter choices also provided. Some visitors have noted that the cooked breakfast is generous and well-prepared, particularly the poached eggs. The dining room also offers continental items and fresh fruit. In the evening, Michelangelo's Restaurant serves Italian dishes made to order. Astrid's Bar features original Beatles memorabilia, a large-screen Sky TV, and a selection of drinks and a bar menu; it can be lively at weekends with music. The hotel also runs themed dining events such as Sunday roasts, which have been well received. For alternative dining, Lark Lane is a ten-minute walk away with numerous restaurants and pubs.

A garden terrace at the rear of the hotel provides outdoor furniture for drinks and relaxation in good weather. Sefton Park itself is directly across the road, offering extensive walking paths, the boating lake, and the Palm House conservatory.
