2060 THE NEWTON HOSTEL, Madrid

The location is one of the strongest assets: the metro station (Line 1) is just a minute away, making it easy to reach the airport and other parts of the city. Many major attractions like the Prado Museum, Reina Sofía Museum, and Gran Via are within 1 km, easily walkable. The area is lively, with a high concentration of tapas bars, restaurants, and shops - including a large 24-hour supermarket a five-minute walk away. For late-night arrivals, the metro runs until 1:30, and a direct airport bus to Cibeles (15-minute walk) also operates. The neighbourhood is generally safe to walk around, even at night, though immediate surroundings can be busy.

All beds in dorms have full-length privacy curtains, a personal reading light, a USB socket, and a shelf, creating a good personal space within the room. Beds themselves are often described as firm and comfortable. Under-bed lockers are large enough for a suitcase; bring a padlock. Private rooms (double, twin, triple, quadruple, family) all include a private bathroom, heating, a TV, and a washing machine. Room sizes vary: some dorms and private rooms are considered compact, while a few are reported as spacious. Air conditioning is available in all rooms. Some rooms on lower floors can be affected by noise from the street, corridors, or the rooftop bar until later hours. A designated quiet time (23:00-08:00) applies, but enforcement can vary.

The free daily breakfast includes churros and hot drinks (coffee, tea). This is a simple but appreciated offering, especially for solo travellers looking for a quick start. There is no restaurant or dinner service on site. Instead, a large, fully equipped shared kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, and refrigerator lets guests prepare their own meals. The surrounding neighbourhood offers dozens of tapas bars and casual restaurants within a 2-to-5-minute walk. A daily pub crawl and tapas tour can be booked at reception for those wanting a guided evening meal with other guests.

The wellness facility includes a sauna and jacuzzi that can be used for €10 (shared) or €25 (private). These are a nice addition for relaxation. The main social hub is the rooftop bar, open in the evening, which offers city views and happy hour deals. Daily activities include two walking tours (free), pub crawls (nightly for an additional charge), tapas tours, bike tours (bike rental €10/day), guided tours to Toledo and Segovia, and flamenco shows at a discount. There is a quiet 'bunker' area on the second floor for working or reading, and a shared lounge with a TV. No swimming pool or gym is available on site.
