Amsterdam Hostel is on Taylor Street in central San Francisco, a 8- to 10-minute walk from Union Square. Chinatown is 13 minutes on foot, The Masonic venue is 5 minutes, and the Powell Street BART station (direct rail to SFO) is about 15 minutes away. Pier 39 is a 25-minute walk, Moscone Center 15 minutes. Many restaurants and cafes are within a few blocks. The neighborhood includes the Tenderloin district, so some streets feel less safe after dark. For the airport, take BART ($10), an airport shuttle ($15-$25), or a taxi ($40-$50).

The hostel offers private double rooms and shared dormitories. Some private rooms include a private bathroom with shower and toiletries; others use shared facilities. All rooms have heating (no air conditioning), carpeted floors, and some have a TV, ironing facilities, or a washing machine. Room sizes vary: some are compact, others more spacious. Renovated rooms tend to be cleaner and better furnished. Noise can be an issue due to thin walls and foot traffic; rooms near stairs or common areas are louder. Lower-floor rooms are more convenient for heavy luggage since there is no elevator. Beds are firm; linens and towels are provided.

The hostel has a full shared kitchen with cooking facilities, a refrigerator, and free coffee and tea each morning. There is no on-site restaurant, but vending machines supply snacks and drinks. Breakfast - when offered - is a continental buffet; its availability depends on the room type booked.
