ASAKUSA RYOKAN TOUKAISOU, Tokyo

The ryokan is set on a quiet street just 200 metres from Kappabashi-dori Street, yet only 650 metres from both Kaminarimon Thunder Gate and Sensoji Temple. Tawaramachi Subway Station (Ginza Line) is a 5-minute walk, providing direct two-stop access to Ueno Station. Asakusa Station on the Tsukuba Express Line is just a 3-minute walk, and the area is well served by buses and the Toei Asakusa Line. The immediate neighbourhood is filled with restaurants, shops, and a 24-hour supermarket. The location combines proximity to major attractions-Sensoji, Nakamise shopping street, and Tokyo Skytree within walking distance-with the benefit of a calm, residential atmosphere.

Rooms are traditional Japanese-style with tatami (woven-straw) floors. Some rooms have a mattress (semi-double or single), while others have traditional futon bedding laid out on the tatami each evening. The en suite bathroom includes a Western-style toilet; rooms with a private bath offer a separate shower and bathtub, while Economy Single Rooms have a unit bath (combined shower and bathtub with toilet). All rooms have small windows; some rooms may receive limited natural light. The accommodation is basic and functional, well suited to a single traveller or couple on a budget. For compact luggage storage, rooms are generally small enough that opening a large suitcase requires some maneuvering. A comfortable futon and a deep soaking tub help make the stay pleasant despite the modest size.

The property does not have a restaurant, bar, or café, and no breakfast is offered. There is a shared microwave and fridge for guest use. The immediate surroundings make self-catering and eating out straightforward: a convenience store (Lawson) is 2-3 minutes away, and the main Asakusa shopping and dining district-including restaurants such as Que Bom, Suzuyoshi Raku, and Steakhouse Sukizuki-is within a 5-minute walk. The area offers a wide variety of Japanese and international food, from quick curry and ramen to sit-down steak and Italian. The lack of on-site dining is offset by the excellent access to nearby options.

Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms. The front desk is staffed from 15:00 to 22:00; outside these hours, the main door remains open for guests with a key. Luggage storage is free and available from 09:00 before check-in and from check-out (10:00) until 15:00. Coin-operated laundry machines are on site, with a rooftop area suitable for drying clothes.
