ASTOR KENSINGTON HOSTEL, London

Room options include 4-, 6-, 8-, 9- and 12-bed mixed dorms, female-only dorms (4-, 6- or 8-bed), and private twin or triple rooms with en-suite. The 8-bed dorms are en-suite and have security cages under the beds. Some dorms have shared bathrooms, and the 4-bed mixed dorm en-suite is on a lower floor. Rooms are compact; with multiple suitcases space is limited. Each bed has a charging station (USB and power) and a reading light. Lockable under-bed storage cages are provided (bring a padlock or buy one at reception). Mattresses are firm. Windows may open, but there is no air conditioning - fans are available. Rooms on lower floors tend to be cooler, while upper rooms can become warm. En-suite bathrooms may have a persistent drain odour, and the light/fan cannot be turned off independently. Towels are included in private rooms but cost £2.50 in dorms.

The continental breakfast includes bread, pastries, jam, instant coffee, tea, and cereal. It is a basic budget option priced at £3.50 per person and can be added upon booking. The shared kitchen is open for guest use and has microwaves, fridges, a stove, and cooking utensils; tea and coffee are provided free of charge. There is no on-site restaurant, but the area around Queensway and Bayswater has a wide selection of cafés, fast food, and international restaurants (Italian, Chinese, Malaysian, Indian) within a 5-minute walk. The lounge and kitchen are the only spaces where eating is permitted - no food in bedrooms.

Free walking tours are organised regularly, and paid pub crawls and bicycle rentals are available. Occasional Sunday picnics are held in nearby Kensington Gardens. The common lounge has a projector, board games, books, and sofas - a social space where travellers gather. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are a 2-minute walk away, providing large green spaces for jogging, cycling, or relaxing. The area also has bowling and ice skating facilities within a short walk. For those seeking nightlife, the neighbourhood has pubs and bars, and the hostel's own pub crawls offer a social way to explore.

WiFi is free throughout the property, though signal strength can vary in upper rooms. The 24-hour front desk can assist with ticket bookings, directions, and printing. Luggage storage is free on the day of arrival; departure-day storage costs £2.50, and extended storage is £7.50 per day. Lockers near reception can be rented for small valuables, and safety deposit boxes are free. Laundry services are available for an additional charge. The shared kitchen is equipped with fridges, microwaves, and basic cookware. Vending machines offer drinks and snacks. The hostel also provides irons and hair dryers on request at reception. Security features include CCTV, key card access, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and a security alarm. Pets are not allowed. Payment is accepted via Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, and UnionPay.
