Hotel Details

Location

Situated in a quiet residential area, Hotel Donatello is a 10-minute walk from Santa Maria Novella train station and a 15-minute stroll to the Duomo and historic centre.

The hotel overlooks Piazza dell'Indipendenza, a leafy square with a park, providing a calm setting just outside the busiest tourist zones. Major sights including the Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, and the Fortezza da Basso exhibition centre are within 20 minutes on foot. The tram stop for the airport is a short walk away, making car-free access straightforward. Numerous restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets are within 300 metres. The 10-minute walk from the train station is manageable with luggage, and free storage is available.

Accommodation

Rooms feature air conditioning, a TV, and private marble bathrooms, with some offering frescoed ceilings and classic Florentine décor.

Room sizes vary: top-floor rooms are larger and quieter, while road-facing rooms can be noisy. Internal courtyard rooms are calmer. All rooms include a safety deposit box, minibar, and hairdryer, but no tea/coffee making facilities. Some rooms have a terrace or internal balcony (note: the hotel states no external balconies - check specific room type). Family rooms with multiple beds are available. The building has a lift. Soundproofing is limited; noise from adjacent rooms and corridors is common. Some rooms have had pest issues; inspecting the room upon arrival is advised.

Dining

Breakfast is a buffet served in the bright dining room or the garden courtyard, featuring pastries, bread, fruit, and hot drinks.

The breakfast selection is predominantly sweet, with cakes, biscuits, pastries, cereals, and fruit. Coffee is available from a machine. The breakfast room can become crowded, especially when school groups are present. There is no restaurant on-site, but a bar and snack bar offer drinks and light snacks, and breakfast in room is available. The garden courtyard is a pleasant spot for breakfast. The surrounding area offers numerous restaurants and cafes for lunch and dinner.

Wellness and Leisure

The hotel has a garden and terrace for relaxation, and offers bicycle rental and bike tours for an additional charge.

There is no pool, spa, or gym. Bicycle rental and guided bike tours can be arranged for a fee, and cooking classes are available off-site. The garden and terrace provide a quiet outdoor space to unwind. The nearby park on Piazza dell'Indipendenza is also a convenient spot for a stroll.

Facilities and Services

Free WiFi is available throughout. The 24-hour reception offers luggage storage, currency exchange, and tour desk services.

Private parking is possible on-site at €40 per day (first-come, first-served, no reservation). Valet parking and a parking garage are also available. An airport shuttle can be arranged for a fee. Daily housekeeping is included; laundry and dry cleaning are available for an extra charge. The hotel is wheelchair accessible with emergency cord, raised toilet, and grab rails in bathrooms. Pets are allowed on request at no extra charge. Safety features include 24-hour security, CCTV, key card access, and safety deposit boxes.
