EDINB&B, Edinburgh

The property is on a narrow close off Cowgate, a historic street with bars and nightlife. Camera Obscura and World of Illusions, The Real Mary King's Close, and the University of Edinburgh are all within a 5-10 minute walk. Edinburgh Waverley train station is 10 minutes on foot, and Edinburgh Airport is 13 km away. The immediate area is lively, with a karaoke bar and nightclub opposite, so street noise is significant, especially on weekends. Numerous restaurants, pubs, and takeaways are within 0.5 km, including The Piemaker, Salt Horse, and Greggs. The central location makes car use unnecessary, but street parking is available (free 18:30-8:30) for those who drive.

Rooms are small and basic, with carpeted floors, heating, and free WiFi. Some rooms have a window, but basement rooms (often Room 1 or those labelled 'budget') have no window and rely on a noisy ventilation fan. A few rooms have a toilet and sink inside but still share a shower. Walls are thin, and single-pane windows let in street noise from the adjacent karaoke bar and nightclub, which operates until 3am. Some rooms have a bright emergency exit sign that stays on all night. Bedding can be worn, and some mattresses are uncomfortable. There is no TV, air conditioning, or private fridge in the rooms. For a quiet stay, request a room away from the street and preferably above ground level.

The shared kitchen is stocked with basic breakfast items such as bread, cereal, milk, jam, tea, and coffee, available from around 5:00 to 9:00. There is no cooked breakfast. The kitchen is also fully equipped for self-catering: guests can use the hob, microwave, kettle, and fridge to prepare their own meals. A wide variety of restaurants, bakeries, and takeaways are within a 3-minute walk, including The Piemaker, Ciao Roma, and Pilgrim Bar, offering alternatives for lunch and dinner.

The property offers free WiFi in all rooms. The shared kitchen includes a stove, microwave, kettle, fridge, and cooking utensils, and guests are welcome to cook. Laundry facilities (washing machine and tumble dryer with soap powder) are available. A hairdryer can be provided on request. Security features include CCTV in common areas, fire extinguishers, and smoke alarms. There is no reception, but check-in is via a key code sent in advance. Luggage storage is limited to a few hours (e.g., from 9:00 to 19:00) and cannot be left for multiple days. No parking is available on site, but street parking is free from 18:30 to 8:30.
