EGYPTIAN MOTOR HOTEL BW SIGNATURE COLLECTION, Phoenix

The Egyptian Motor Hotel sits in Phoenix's central Grand Avenue Arts District, a creative neighbourhood with galleries, murals, and a walkable arts scene. Copper Square and Arizona State University are 16 minutes on foot, and the Phoenix Convention Center is 2 km away. Downtown venues like The Van Buren and Footprint Center are within a short walk or 5-10 minute taxi ride. The immediate area has a lively, artsy character but also includes some rougher blocks, with occasional encampments and litter. Street parking is available but not recommended overnight; the hotel's paid lot offers more security. For airport access, an Uber is fast and direct.

Accommodation is housed in a renovated mid-century motor lodge with exterior corridors and a central courtyard. Rooms are available as doubles (1 queen or king bed), quadruples (2 beds), and bunk-bed configurations. Each room is individually decorated with a playful, music-themed aesthetic, including a guitar, a 2/3-sized themed refrigerator, and quirky details like a Brita water pitcher and kettlebell. Practical amenities include air conditioning, heating, a work desk, microwave, and safe. Bathrooms are compact, with a half-shower screen that lets water spread onto the floor; no bathroom fan is provided, so rooms become muggy after showering. Some rooms have no windows or face the courtyard, trading natural light for privacy. Flooring in many units shows wear (dirtiness, soft spots, uneven tiles), and cleanliness can be inconsistent - some rooms have had issues with hair, stains, and pests including cockroaches and bed bugs. Noise is a common factor: upper-floor footsteps are clearly audible below, and the walls are thin. The beds range from very firm to comfortable, with soft pillows provided. Ear plugs are supplied in each room.

The property's restaurant, Chilte, is a highlight, offering an acclaimed menu of updated Mexican dishes made with original recipes by a locally known chef. Dinner service runs from Tuesday to Saturday (17:00-23:00) and includes craft cocktails. The bar in the courtyard and inside the restaurant serves drinks, with a lively social atmosphere, fire pits, and games. Weekend live music or DJ events are common, with bass that can be felt in the rooms. For those wanting a quick bite, bagels and coffee are available for purchase in the morning. Breakfast is not included, but the nearby Azteca Bakery & Mexican Food (0.5 km) and Novel Ice Cream (0.5 km) offer alternatives. A food truck is sometimes on-site but its hours are not fixed.
