THE FRANCISCAN HOTEL, Santa Barbara

The Franciscan Hotel is situated just one block from the beach and Santa Barbara Harbor, placing you steps from the waterfront path, pier, and dining. The Funk Zone, with its breweries, wine-tasting rooms, and galleries, is a short walk away. Downtown State Street and the Amtrak station are an 8- to 10-minute walk. The Santa Barbara Airport is about 20 minutes by car, and no airport shuttle is offered. Free private parking on site is a significant advantage, allowing you to leave your car and explore on foot or by bike. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, even at night.

The hotel offers a variety of accommodations, including King and Queen guestrooms, suites with separate living areas, and ADA-compliant options. Decor reflects a relaxed Santa Barbara style with beach-themed fabrics, warm woods, and original artwork. Many rooms have been recently renovated with modern bathrooms and slate accents. Some rooms are motel-style with direct parking access, while others are in the Western, Edgewater, or Franciscan wings. Select rooms feature private balconies or patios, and some have kitchenettes with stovetops, microwaves, and full-size refrigerators. Air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free WiFi are standard. Room quality varies; some are more updated than others, and rooms facing the street may carry road noise. Request a room away from the road if you are a light sleeper.

The hotel provides a continental breakfast each morning, typically including eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries, cereal, oatmeal, and fresh fruit. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 9:30 AM, and the selection may vary. In the afternoon, warm cookies are offered, and coffee and tea are available all day. There is no restaurant on site, but the hotel is within walking distance of numerous dining options, including Sambo's, The Neighborhood, Rudy's Mexican Restaurant, and the Funk Zone's many eateries. A gift shop sells beverages, snacks, and sundries from 7 AM to 11 PM.

The outdoor pool is heated to 28 °C year-round and open from 9 AM to 10 PM. The hot tub, located in a separate secluded area, is heated to 40 °C and available from 9 AM to 9:30 PM. Pool towels are available near the pool. Free bicycle rentals are offered for up to 2 hours, allowing guests to explore the beachfront path, harbor, and downtown. The property also features a courtyard with a fountain and a fire pit, providing pleasant outdoor seating areas.

Free private parking is available on site without reservation, a rare convenience in Santa Barbara. WiFi is free throughout the property. The hotel offers luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures. Guest laundry facilities include coin-operated washers ($2.50) and dryers ($2.00), with detergent for $1.25. A 24-hour security guard is on duty from 11 PM to 7 AM. The gift shop sells drinks, snacks, and travel essentials. Pets are allowed for a one-time fee of $75, with a pet bed and bowls provided; a waiver is required at check-in. Service animals are always welcome. Daily housekeeping is included. Additional services such as dry cleaning and ironing are available for a fee. The property is accessible with wheelchair-friendly rooms and features like grab rails and raised toilets.
