GASLAMP HOSTEL, San Diego

The hostel is on a pedestrian-friendly street closed to traffic most of the day. San Diego Convention Center, Maritime Museum, and USS Midway Museum are within walking distance. Balboa Park is 3 km away, San Diego Zoo 5 km, and the airport 4 km. Public transport is easily accessible, and the location is ideal for exploring downtown on foot.

Each bunk bed has a privacy curtain, personal light, power outlet, and a locker with an internal charging point. Lockers are school-locker sized, suitable for a medium backpack; large suitcases may not fit. Rooms are carpeted and some are compact. The historic 1887 building has character but limited ventilation, which can lead to stuffiness. Street-facing rooms can be noisy due to nearby clubs, while quieter rooms exist away from the street. Complimentary towels are provided.

Breakfast includes cereal, oatmeal, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The fully equipped kitchen has cookware, condiments, and a refrigerator for storing personal food. A wide variety of restaurants (Italian, American, burgers, ice cream) are within a three-minute walk, offering many options for lunch and dinner.

Free evening entertainment includes karaoke, movie nights, and a games room. Walking tours and local culture classes are free, while pub crawls are available for an additional charge. The shared lounge provides a comfortable space for socialising, and board games are available. There is no pool, spa, or gym.

WiFi is free throughout, though connectivity can be variable in some rooms. Luggage storage is free before check-in and until 6pm on checkout day. Laundry costs $3 per load. Parking is available off-site for $20 per day with a pre-purchased pass (reservation required). The hostel has key card access, CCTV, and safety deposit boxes. Daily housekeeping is included, and basic business services (fax/photocopying) are free. Reception is staffed 24 hours Thursday through Saturday; self check-in can be arranged on other days.
