GENERATOR AMSTERDAM, Amsterdam

The hostel is located at Mauritskade 57, 1092AD, in a peaceful area adjacent to Oosterpark, a large English-style park with walking paths, a pond, and playgrounds. Tram 14 stops at Alexanderplein, just a 5-minute walk away, offering direct service to Amsterdam Central Station (10 minutes) and the city centre. Rembrandtplein and the Heineken Experience are 1.6-2 km away, reachable on foot or by tram. The nearest airport, Schiphol, is 24 km away - take a train to Centraal Station, then tram 14. Street parking is limited; the hostel's own parking costs €35 per night and must be reserved. The area feels safe and quiet, especially at night, though the 24-hour entrance means the front door can be noisy from people coming and going. Nearby casual dining includes PARK Cafe-Restaurant (0.5 km), Todine, De Tropen, Roopram Roti, and De Biertuin Linnaeusstraat, all within a 5-10 minute walk. The zoo is a short walk away, making the location convenient for families.

Breakfast is served buffet-style for €9.50-€16 per person, featuring a range of options including full English/Irish, vegetarian, halal, and gluten-free choices, plus pastries, cereal, fruit, and hot and cold drinks. Children's menus are available. The Nescio Café is open throughout the day and evening, offering cooked meals including their "Gen Burgers" and a selection of local dishes. There is a micro-oven available for heating outside food. No guest kitchen is provided. The Oosterbar, located in the former boiler room in the basement, serves cocktails and local beers with a lively evening atmosphere. The auditorium bar on the first floor functions as a lounge and event space, hosting live music, karaoke, and DJs. A converting section of the original library serves as a social space. Fresh fruit, wine/champagne, kids' meals, and special diet menus can be requested at an extra cost. Outside food is not allowed inside the property, requiring all meals to be purchased on-site. Breakfast quality is a continental buffet with hot items like eggs and sausage; those seeking a more extensive hot breakfast or a wider variety may prefer to plan a meal at a nearby café.

The hostel does not have a swimming pool, spa, or wellness centre. For leisure, the property features a table tennis table, board games, movie nights, and a library that converts into a screening/party space. The Oosterbar club hosts karaoke, live music, and DJ events, while the auditorium shows live sports and television. Bicycle rental is available at reception for exploring the city and the nearby Oosterpark. The park itself has walking paths, ponds, and playgrounds, suitable for morning runs or picnics. Evening entertainment is common - from meditation sessions to full parties - and often runs late, which may affect sleep in rooms near the event spaces. The minimarket on site sells snacks and drinks.

WiFi is free and available throughout the building, though speed can be inconsistent, particularly in certain sections. The 24-hour front desk provides key-card access, secure lockers (prices vary: small 24h locker €9.50, large 24h locker €12.50), and luggage storage for a fee. Laundry is available on site for a charge - washing machine and dryer are provided. Bicycle rental is offered for a fee; taxi and airport shuttle are not available. Meeting/banquet facilities are available for hire (additional charge), and the public library area can serve as a workspace, though it can be noisy. Accessibility includes lifts serving all floors, wheelchair-accessible entrances, emergency cords in bathrooms, lower sinks, grab rails, and accessible parking spots. Security features include CCTV in common areas and outside, key-card access on rooms, smoke alarms, and security alarms. Hairdryers can be borrowed free of charge with ID deposit. Irons are available from reception. The minimarket on site sells essentials. Pets are permitted in designated private rooms with a €25 per night fee. Accepted payment methods include Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, JCB, Maestro, Discover, and UnionPay. The hostel does not have a guest kitchen.
