HOTEL LE NICE ETOILE, Nice

The hotel is centrally positioned on a quiet street just off the main shopping boulevard, Jean Médecin. The old town, beach and Promenade des Anglais are all within a 10-20-minute walk. The tram stop (line 1, connecting to the airport and train station) is about two minutes away, and Nice-Ville station is a 10-15-minute walk - making day trips to Monaco, Cannes or Èze straightforward. A Monoprix supermarket and many restaurants are on the doorstep, and the Nice Étoile shopping centre is adjacent. The location is convenient for both car-free visitors and those using public transport, though parking requires a nearby paid car park.

Rooms are practical and compact - single and double rooms are particularly small, while twin and triple rooms offer more space. Each room includes a private bathroom with either a bath or shower, free toiletries and a hairdryer (available on request). Air conditioning and heating are provided, but the remote for the air conditioning is kept at reception and may be withheld during colder months. Soundproofing is limited: road-facing rooms can be noisy from street and restaurant sounds until late evening, and internal noise from neighbouring rooms is common. Room furnishings are basic and some feel dated; some bathrooms have damaged tiles, shower curtains rather than screens, and toilet seats may be missing. Bedding consists of a sheet and a blanket that is not always freshly laundered. Baby equipment (cot) is available on request. Rooms on the courtyard side tend to be quieter.

Breakfast is a basic continental selection: typically one pastry (croissant or pain au chocolat), a hot drink and orange juice - not a buffet. The price is 6 EUR per person. For a more substantial morning meal, several cafés and bakeries are within a two-minute walk. The surrounding streets offer a very wide range of restaurants, from Asian cuisine (Sushiya, Restaurant Asia Cook) to Italian and North African options (Casbah, Le Shalimar), all within 0.5 km. The hotel does not have an on-site restaurant or bar for evening meals, but a shared lounge area is available.

The hotel does not offer a pool, spa, gym, sauna or any leisure facilities. For exercise, jogging or walking, the Promenade des Anglais and the beach are a 14-minute walk away. The old town, museums and the Nice Étoile shopping centre are all within walking distance. The shared lounge/TV area is the only indoor leisure space.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and generally reliable. Luggage storage is available before check-in and after check-out at no charge. Daily housekeeping includes rubbish removal, towel changes and bed making - though some report that towel quality is worn. The communal area has a microwave, fridge, crockery and a free hot-drinks machine, which is useful for storing and reheating food. A computer with internet access is also available in the lobby. Reception is staffed during the day, but access after hours requires a key card and door code; the reception may not be attended overnight. Safety deposit boxes are free at reception. No lift on the premises. Iron and ironing board are available. A resident dog (a Belgian Shepherd) may be present in common areas, which can be off-putting for some.
