HOTEL MYSTAYS UENO EAST, Tokyo

The hotel sits on a side street in a peaceful residential neighbourhood, yet it is just two minutes from Inaricho subway station on the Ginza Line, providing direct rail access to Ginza, Shibuya and Asakusa. JR Ueno Station and Keisei Ueno Station are both within a 10-15 minute walk, offering Shinkansen bullet trains and the Skyliner express to Narita Airport. Ueno Park, Ameyokocho market, the Tokyo National Museum and Kaminarimon Thunder Gate are all within easy walking distance. The area is quiet and safe, and there are several convenience stores, supermarkets and casual dining options immediately around the hotel. The Keisei Ueno station route is straightforward: walk towards JR Ueno, turn onto Asakusa-dori towards Skytree, and look for a Natural Lawson on the left.

All rooms include air conditioning (centrally controlled, no individual temperature setting), a safe, an electric kettle, a fridge, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, and a private bathroom with bathtub, shower, bidet, hairdryer and free toiletries. Sleepwear, slippers, a memory foam pillow, an air purifier and a trouser press are provided. Rooms have windows (1 or 2) that can be opened slightly for airflow, but all windows have curtains so they can be closed for privacy. No balconies are available. Standard double rooms are around 14 m2 and compact; superior double rooms offer a 140 cm x 195 cm bed, while standard twin and triple rooms provide more floor space and are the only options for triple occupancy. Corner rooms tend to be smaller. The hotel does not offer connecting rooms. Children under 12 can stay free with existing bedding, but no extra beds, cots or tatami mats are provided; the standard double bed (approximately 120-140 cm wide) may be too small for two adults plus a child.

Breakfast is served in a restaurant on site and is available for an extra fee of 1870 JPY per person. It operates from 07:00 to 09:30 daily. The breakfast is a buffet offering five set options, including both Japanese and Western choices, with the menu rotating slightly between days. Ordering must be done the evening before, and guests select a specific half-hour time slot for their meal. Portions are sufficient for a start to the day, and the food is well-prepared and good value. There is one vegetarian option among the five choices. The dining room is only open for breakfast; no lunch or dinner meals are provided. The surrounding streets contain numerous cafés, convenience stores and casual eateries within a few minutes' walk.

In-room massage can be arranged through the front desk at an extra cost. No swimming pool, spa, wellness centre, gym or sauna is on site. A public bathhouse (onsen) is located about 40 metres from the hotel for those interested in a traditional bathing experience.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. The 24-hour front desk offers luggage storage free of charge on the day of check-in and check-out; storing luggage for longer than one day costs ¥300 per piece per day. A drinks vending machine and a single microwave (in the lobby) are available. A coin-operated laundromat is located at the sister hotel directly behind this one, open daily from 07:00 to 22:00. There is no on-site laundry room, and the path between the two buildings is outdoors. Daily housekeeping is provided, with towel exchange and basic cleaning. A hairdryer and essential toiletries are supplied, and staff can lend items such as hair straighteners and plug adapters upon request (subject to availability). The hotel does not have a ramp at the entrance; there are two flights of stairs to reach the lobby, but staff can assist with luggage. English-speaking staff are available at reception. Luggage delivery (send and receive) is possible through the front desk. A safe is provided in each room for storing valuables such as a laptop.
