Hotel Details

Location

Positioned on Ingram Street in the Merchant City, the hotel is a short walk from George Square, main train stations, and all major shopping streets.
The hotel sits directly on Glasgow's premier boulevard, metres from George Square and the Gallery of Modern Art. Glasgow Central, Queen Street and Argyle Street stations are all within a 5-minute walk, making the hotel ideal for train travellers. Buchanan Street's shops, the Barras Market, and the OVO Hydro are easily reached on foot or by a one-minute bus ride from George Square. The M8 motorway is a 5-minute drive away. The hotel is also close to hundreds of restaurants, bars, and nightlife options, which provides convenience but can mean higher external noise levels at night, particularly for rooms facing the street. For those driving, the hotel's own car park is at the rear (entrance on Virginia Street, postcode G1 1TX), but note the alley access can be tight and the LEZ charge applies to non-compliant vehicles.

Accommodation

The hotel offers Classic, Privilege and Superior rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, HD TV and free WiFi, though rooms are consistently described as compact.
All 91 bedrooms come with an HD TV, free high-speed WiFi, and tea and coffee facilities. Classic rooms (double or twin) have a comfortable bed, en-suite bathroom, hairdryer and a work desk. Privilege rooms upgrade guests to a Nespresso machine, bathrobes and slippers, while Superior Suites feature a more spacious layout with a four-poster bed, sofa, and Nespresso machine. However, a clear and consistent pattern shows that the standard room footprint is small-many describe it as tight for two people and one suitcase. The hotel is older and public areas and corridors show wear; some carpets and furniture require updating. Bathrooms are basic and may have low shower pressure, limited ventilation, and separate hot/cold taps. Windows are restricted to a small gap for safety (fans are available from reception on request). Back-facing rooms tend to be quieter, while street-facing rooms can be very noisy at night. Higher floors reduce some street noise. A limited number of adapted rooms exist with accessible features.

Dining

The Bagio Café Bar serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, including a cooked-to-order full Scottish breakfast and an evening menu with pizzas and pub classics.
Breakfast is a popular offering, available as a continental buffet (cereals, fruit, yoghurt, pastries) and a full cooked Scottish breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, haggis, tattie scone, beans, mushrooms, vegetarian sausage). Breakfast is served daily: Monday-Friday 06:30-10:00, Saturday-Sunday 07:30-11:00. The walk-in rate is £17.95 per person; a discounted rate of £12 for one or £17.95 for two is available when added at check-in. The à la carte evening menu includes authentic pizzas, British favourites (steak pie, fish and chips, burgers), with weekly specials. The bar area stays open 24/7 for hotel guests and has a relaxed atmosphere. The hotel also caters for vegetarians and vegans at breakfast. For those wanting other options, the surrounding Merchant City has hundreds of restaurants on the doorstep.

Wellness and Leisure

The hotel's primary leisure facilities are its central location, giving direct access to Glasgow's parks, museums and entertainment venues on foot.
The hotel itself does not have a pool, spa, gym, or sauna. Its leisure value comes entirely from being in the centre of Glasgow's cultural and entertainment district. Within a short walk are the Gallery of Modern Art, George Square, Glasgow Cathedral, the Barras Weekend Market, and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery (10-15 minutes). The OVO Hydro arena and the SSE Hydro are easily reached by train or a 15-minute walk. Glasgow Botanic Gardens are a 15-minute drive or bus ride via West George Street. The Glasgow Science Centre (adult £14.75, child £11.50) is reachable by bus or train. The company offers a 'Wellness Your Way' reward programme for business bookers, with vouchers for wellness experiences and treatments, redeemable after the event.

Facilities and Services

Free high-speed WiFi, 24-hour reception, express check-in/out, free luggage storage and a 24-hour bar are complemented by full business event facilities.
The hotel provides complimentary high-speed WiFi throughout. There are seven meeting rooms across the 6th-floor conference centre, the largest of which (the Buchanan Suite) can host up to 100 people in theatre or banquet style. The Broker and Banker suites each hold up to 55 guests for civil ceremonies. Rooms are wheelchair accessible, and the main conference room is fully air-conditioned with full accessibility. Three day-delegate packages are available (Basic, Essential, Enhanced), including catering and AV equipment. The hotel offers a dedicated wedding planner service. For practical needs: luggage storage is free and secure; a laundry and dry-cleaning service is available for an additional charge; and bikes can be stored in a secure luggage store. The hotel has a lift and stairs to the right of reception serving all floors. Though the hotel is generally clean, some public areas and corridors show wear and are in need of refurbishment.

Top Strategic Tips

  • 01

Book a Privilege or Superior room for the extra space and amenities like a Nespresso machine, but expect modest room dimensions overall.

  • 02

Request a room on a higher floor facing away from the street to minimise street noise, particularly for light sleepers.

  • 03

Use the on-site parking as a central option, but arrive early as it is first-come, first-served with no reservation possible.

  • 04

Consider booking breakfast at check-in for the best rate; the continental and cooked buffet is included in some packages.
