The immediate area is lively with bars, restaurants and nightlife - the hotel is surrounded by options such as La Famiglia, Bistro Pierre, Turtle Bay and Shiraz Turkish BBQ, all within 0.5 km. The NCP Moorfields car park (discounted for guests) is a 3-minute walk away. John Lennon Airport is a 30-minute drive from the hotel.

The rooms vary between refurbished units with modern decor and original period features, and older rooms that some may find dated with worn carpets, heavy purple décor, or limited light-blocking blinds. Refurbished rooms tend to be spacious, clean and well-presented, while unrefurbished rooms can feel small, shabby and may have heavily marked furniture or stained carpets. A few rooms are described as 'Cadbury-coloured cells' - dark, claustrophobic and in need of attention. Many rooms have a musty smell or feel very hot, as there is no air conditioning and windows often open only a few inches - a fan is available on request but can be noisy. Road- and street-facing rooms can be very noisy, especially with a nearby club playing music until 5am. The 'double beds' are sometimes two singles pushed together. Complaints about uncomfortable spring mattresses are common - those who value sleep quality should request a refurbished room and consider a higher floor. The bathrooms, especially in refurbished rooms, are clean and modern with walk-in showers and good water pressure, though some older bathrooms have low pressure or stained fixtures. Some rooms also have a small step up to the shower. Family rooms are available (e.g. triple rooms with 3 single beds), but there are few USB sockets. The lift serves all floors.
