SLEEP INN & SUITES UNIVERSITY-SHANDS, Gainesville

The hotel sits within a practical strip with easy highway access, making it well-suited for visitors to the University of Florida (approx. 5-10 km from campus), the VA hospital, or Shands. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is 7 km away, and the Stephen C. O'Connell Center is 7 km away. The immediate area is walkable to several chain restaurants (Waffle House, Chipotle, Arby's, Bento Asian Kitchen) within 0.5 km. A Publix and a Target are across the street, and a Walmart is a short drive. Free parking on site accommodates trucks, RVs, and trailers. For UF game days, a free shuttle to the stadium is available.

Room types include double queens and junior king suites, some of which have a sofa bed and a bathtub. The property is older and shows some wear, with carpeted floors and a practical layout. Air conditioning is available but some units struggle with humidity, and the bathroom fan may not always exhaust moisture effectively. The rooms tend to feel spacious, with comfortable beds and good water pressure in the showers. Some rooms may have a musty or damp smell, especially on lower floors or near the road. Lighting and temperature controls are adequate. Sofa beds are an option for extra guests, but the pull-out mattress condition should be checked.

The breakfast selection is well-stocked and includes both hot and cold options, with two waffle batters, Nutella, and non-GMO choices. In the lobby, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available all day, and fresh cookies and popcorn are offered in the afternoon and evening. Several chain restaurants are within a five-minute walk (Waffle House, Chipotle, Arby's, etc.), and Publix and Target are across the street for groceries.

The outdoor pool is small but refreshing on hot days, open seasonally. The fitness centre is compact with three cardio machines (no dumbbells or weight equipment). A sun terrace is available for relaxing. The pool area is located on the property, and free popcorn and cookies are a welcome touch after a swim.
