HOTEL ST. JAMES, New York

The hotel is approximately 200 meters from Times Square, placing it right at the heart of the Theatre District and within easy reach of Broadway shows, Bryant Park, and the New York Public Library. The 42nd Street-Times Square subway station (serving lines 1, 2, 3, N, Q, R, W, 7, S) is two blocks away; Rockefeller Centre (lines B, D, M, F) is three blocks; and Port Authority (lines A, C, E, 7) is four blocks. The Empire State Building is a 16-minute walk. The immediate area is bustling with restaurants, delis (including a 24-hour convenience store next door), and bars, but can feel very crowded. The location is excellent for first-time visitors wanting to explore Manhattan on foot or by subway, but those looking for a calm, car-friendly stay will find the constant energy intense.

Room types include double rooms with one double bed and quadruple rooms with two double beds, suitable for up to four people. Around 30 m² in some rooms, but many are described as compact with basic furniture, parquet floors, and a small closet. There are no interconnecting rooms. Rooms generally lack in-room coffee, tea, fridge, or microwave-guests relying on these should plan to use the 24-hour deli next door. Older window-unit air conditioners can be noisy, and temperature control is via radiators that may heat unevenly. Some rooms face an internal lightwell (offering limited daylight and possible noise from adjacent buildings), while those on 45th Street receive street noise. Beds can be firm or creaky in some rooms; others report comfortable king-size beds. Linen and towels are clean for the most part, but a few reports note occasional humidity or mold in bathroom grout. Daily housekeeping is available, though frequency can vary. Luggage storage (honor-system in a hallway) is offered before check-in and after check-out.

Given the complete lack of on-site dining, guests must rely entirely on the surrounding neighborhood. A 24-hour deli and convenience store is right next door, providing bagels, hot drinks, snacks, and takeaway meals. Within a three-minute walk are Cafe Cranberry, Butter Midtown, and TGI Fridays, with Carmine's Italian Restaurant, Hard Rock Cafe, The Perfect Pint, and Virgil's Real BBQ roughly a five-minute walk away. The Irish pub next door is open late and offers a range of options. For those who want to prepare their own food, Whole Foods is within walking distance. Planning meals in advance-especially breakfast and late-night snacks-is essential, as the property provides no meal service itself.
